I recently acquired a S&W Model 52-2. It is a superb centerfire competition pistol however the trigger weight is at between 2lbs and 2lbs, 1oz. Considering the lack of parts available for the model, is there an easy way to increase trigger pull without parts replacement and/or a total strip down? I have been thinking (always dangerous) that perhaps an adjustment on the mainspring or replacement with a Model 41 mainspring might help. I read somewhere that they are interchangeable and my .22 is a Model 41 so it is easily available. So far I have not been able to locate any of the other springs involved. The only part I have found is a Sear. Also saw a thread on shimming the sear spring as a possibility. Anybody have any experience in this matter? Thanks in advance. I always get good info from the members in this forum.

Barring excessive wear and tear or damage on components, increasing sear spring tension would increase the trigger pull weight more than adding a heavier mainspring, IMO.

Depending on how extensively the gun has been used, and the condition of the hammer and sear, sharpening the sear bevel would also help, but you would need a sear jig to do that.

You might also contact Clark Custom to see if they could be of help.

The minimum weight for a centerfire pistol under NRA rules is 2 lbs. 8 oz., so you are correct that your pistol's trigger pull weight is too light for serious competition. I would submit that replacing the mainspring with a new one would solve your problem. It might be a good idea to replace all of the springs while you are at it. Here is a good source of information that every serious handgun owner should have: The Official NRA Guide to Firearms Assembly: Pistols & Revolvers Official Store of the National Rifle Association

I received a Model 25-10 a week ago. The single action trigger pull was 2 pounds flat. Fortunately, the seller told me that "the action was slicked up." The trigger rebound spring was at least 4 coils shorter than standard. A 13 pound spring brought it up to 2 pounds, 9 ounces and that's about as light as I want any trigger to be. (Factory spring is 18 pounds.)

I second the suggestion to replace both springs with "factory standard". See where that puts you.

What can I do to get my S&W DA/SA pistols to have 2.5 lbs trigger? This sounds like a great problem to have, although maybe a 3.5 lbs single action trigger would be closer to ideal.

On my 52, I needed a 3lb trigger pull weight to be legal for International Centerfire back in the 90's. A competitor from Florida sent me a different S&W sear spring that would increase the trigger pull.
It increases it too much and I had to keep pulling it back out and slightly bending it until I got around 3.25 lbs.
So, if I got another 52 and it had a light trigger, I'd pull out the sear spring and slightly bend it to get back up to 2.5 lbs.
Back in the day, NRA centerfire trigger weight was 2.5 lb's and International was 3 lbs.
Not a fun job removing the sear spring and checking the trigger weights several times. Maybe try a new sear spring from someone like Numrich Arms.
