What I need are a few more 20 rounders.
You and me both. I'd even be willing to trade some unopened 30rd Pmags for some 20rd or even some 10rd ones.
They must be sold out because I don't
see any in either site.
So I guess they decided Colorado wasn't
so bad afterall?
On magazines, I would love to have some 20 round Pmags, I have the one 30 that came with my Sport. I do have a total of 6 30's, and 8 20's, 6 of the 20's are thermolds, I have been using them really steady for over a year and have yet to have one mess up on me. I rarely use my 30's. I also have a couple of AR-Stoner 10 rounders that I really like. It was funny my Thermolds were $3 a piece and have been great. The only reason I would like a couple of 20 round Pmags is for how they look. LOL
... But from a mechanical standpoint would it really be a problem to make 30 round mags straight? Wouldn't seem they save much vertical space by curving the last 10 rounds. I'm sure there is a reason?
I'm with you on the 20 rounders. From a practical standpoint I just like the simplicity of the straight mag as opposed to the curved 30 rounder. I don't see the need for 30 round mags in my situation anyway. Legally I am not saying I am against them. I think if a person wants an 80 round mag then they should have that legal right. But from a mechanical standpoint would it really be a problem to make 30 round mags straight? Wouldn't seem they save much vertical space by curving the last 10 rounds. I'm sure there is a reason?
It has to do with the shape of the ammunition - it's smaller (less diameter) at the bullet end than the primer end as the case "necks" down. The result is the bullet end dropping or tilting downward slightly as they get stacked into the mag. It's not very much per round but when you get much more than 20, that becomes an issue in loading and then feeding back out properly. The slight curve solves that issue. Having an anti-tilt follower helps even more.
22lr mags are the same if they are more than 10 rounders because of the rim of the 22lr round (being a rimfire). but handgun rounds (like the 30+ glock mags, UZI mags, etc) don't have that issue because they don't neck down in the casing.
If they were straight that would add to the length on the bottom which could interfere with bipods, etc. I'm sure there is a reason why they are curved
