Due to some orthopedic problems, I made a half-hearted attempt to sell my 646, as I didn't enjoy shooting a full box of cartridges. The sale didn't pan out, and I like the gun quite a bit, so I ordered some dies and cast bullets that I've loaded with 4 grains of WW 231.

I also ordered a pair of my favorite grips, Herrett's Jordan Troopers, which came last week. They work so well that I really didn't need to start reloading for another caliber - the combination of smooth walnut and hand filling size make it a real pleasure. I know a lot of folks wouldn't want these type of grips on this type of firearm, but I like 'em.

Now if S&W would send the holster that's been back-ordered since all this started, I'd be a happy boy.

Confused as to which is the lipstick and which is the pig, both the 646 and the Herretts look good. The grain on those stocks is beautiful and they look great on the Mod 646.

Nice, happy shooting.

+1. I've got a 646 like yours and love it and those grips look great! No pigs in that pic, if you ask me.

Hey, it's your gun and your hand, use whatever works for you! I happen to think those Herret's look great on that nice 646.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think the "pig" comment refers to the 646. Not that it's not a nice looking gun. But, rather it's an odd caliber to chamber a revolver in. While a 10mm revolver can shoot both the .40 S&W and the 10mm. The 646 is stuck with just the .40, but then a model 15 can only chamber .38 Special. Nothing wrong with either round. Maybe it's just me that finds the 646 an oddly chambered gun. Like I said, I'm going out on a limb.
Nice gun and beautiful grips, though.

Joni Lynn has posted many pictures of revolvers with these grips and yes they are nice looking grips!!!!

Thanks, I do too. The pig thing was a little tongue in cheek, but all my other Herrett's with extra fancy walnut are on blued guns, or in one case highly polished stainless steel.

I actually think the .40 is a perfect size cartridge for an L frame, especially now that I can load it down a bit when I want to. I'm one of those folks who don't like the .40 in an auto, if I want something bigger than a 9mm, I go all the way to .45.

Your Troopers look exceptionally nice. I have a pair on my Model 57, and just this past week received another pair that I put on my Outdoorsman. I also just ordered another pair for my Pre Model 24. The troopers are made for my hand size and they really soak up the recoil and make it pleasant to shoot hotter loads.

That is such a beautiful set of grips! I'm a softy for these things and wish I could get a set of them for all of my revolvers...

How long did you have to wait for those?

I honestly don't remember. Based on the estimate when I ordered them, I didn't expect to get them until October or November, so they came faster than expected.

For me they're one of those "order and forget about it" things, like El Paso Saddlery holsters. I know I'll be pleased when I get them, and that quality work takes time.
