Little Bitty 44 Magnums

I didn't think K rounds would fit. Did they ever make a n round like that?

Well see I am a bit 'different' from other folks, so what I would do is find a ratty looking 44 of just about any model and make it a project gun and build it how I want it. Granted I love to tinker and can't leave well enough alone, but I would go for a beat up 29 and make a great companion out of it. Then start a thread that begins with 'THE ULTIMATE.....'

My "Ultimate" vote as well but I had someone else do the work........

Magnaport customs, all with 2 5/8" barrels......

Yup. The last I looked the S&W factory store still has some of the Heritage N-Frame Round "Retros" in stock.

Here's a link:

Product: N Round Old Style Checkered Service Grip

Also, Altamont has a N-Frame Round Butt "Magna-like" stock set.

Altamont - Pistol Grips

And so does Eagle.

Gun Grips | S&W Rosewood Reg. Panels N Frame - S&W Rosewood Reg. Panels N Frame Round Butt Checkered | Gun Grips

Eagle used to mount S&W Medallions for you if you paid the extra price for it.... Not sure if Altamont will.

I really like this 3"

It shoots well and is maybe my all time favorite gun.

I would get a 629 carry comp. If you can save your pennies for the pre lock version. I don't think a power port would be much of an isse with shot shells.

I think a 329ng is the best choice for what you describe. I, like you, when in a rural locations depend on a 329pd. For me the natural choice is the 329ng and is on the I'm gonna get list when the funds are available.

Here is my old shooter 29-2 that originally had a 6" barrel after I bought a 3" barrel from Numrich for $100.

Here`s my fav. complete with Crimson Trace grips.

629-3 with 3 inch barrel.

I like Everything about it!

Like another poster said it is dead on accurate- far better than I am capable of.

I know a collector with five of these. 4 of them never been fired .... I hear that he is considering selling the 4. What's a fair price for one? The last two on gunbroker went for $1500....

Look for one of these... the Camfour 2 1/2" 629's.... Little bit hard to find.. only 300 made in 1999.

There were more made after the introduction of the Lawyer Key. Only 300 or so made without the Ignition Switch. I wouldn't let either one of mine go for less that that.

WC145:

I like that revolver a lot just as it is! Please post up a photo of the 'new' 29 when it comes back from the 'smith.

I forgot about this thread but since it's popped up again here's a pic of the redone 29. It already had the full Mag-na-port package (action, porting, grip frame reduction, etc) so all I had done was the charge holes chamfered, front edge of the cylinder beveled, hammer and trigger polished, and then bead blasted to remove the green and parkerized. It came out just the way I wanted it. It's a great handling revolver and the porting really does work, .44 mags are very manageable, it's loud as all get out, though!:)

OP- How did you ever solve your revolver choice dilemma?

Here is my 29-4, .44 Magmum. These things will handle the heavy stuff. I got a NightGuard .44 Mag for a friend. He is now very reluctant to shoot full house .44M's in anything.

Gents, again I thank you for all the pictures and info.

I have not bought a small 44 yet.

However I did go on a Spring Turkey/pig hunt for a month, and instead of a 44 Mag [no bears where I was], I took 1911's in 45 ACP and the 325 NG and the 2" 22 LR Kit Gun.

I did have some handgun action.
One after noon around 2:30 I stepped outside the trailer to get something out of the ice box and there was a big rattlesnake righ at my feet. I popped him in the head with the 1911.

Later that same night, about 10:30pm when I walked back to the ATV after doing a little after dark pig hunting I almost stepped on a copperhead at the rear of the ATV.

I shot him with the 2" Kit gun with a Speer/CCI shot shell.

A few days later checking a buddies feeder, I found another big rattler right under it.
Again I killed him with a Speer shotshell. I took him back to camp and skinned and butchered him. As I left camp to hunt that same after noon I killed another rattler just outside of camp, again with the 22LR.

So I took him back to camp and butchered him as well.

I do like rattler fried in olive oil.

I was suprised how well the 22LR shotshells worked on those rattlers. It only took one shot each.

I also shot a couple hundred rounds of so, of ammo through the 325 NG.

Did some up close work as well as some 25 yard and even some 35 to 50 yard rock shooting.

As it stands now I think the 329 NG would be the little 44 Mag for me.
