It will work fine. You won't need a riser or anything, just attach to rail as is. You can keep the iron sights on your rifle too. You'll just have a red dot on top of your front sight post.

The one you are looking at is a little expensive. The identical item can be found with a variety of labels on them such as SightMark for $40 or maybe even less.

It will work great except in direct sunlite -- the red dot washes out. If you are shooting under a roof then it's cool.

My suggestion is to forget about all that kinda stuff and have the barrel threaded. I just had my 15-22 barrel threaded by Belt_Fed. See pics in the subject here-- '15-22 threaded barrel'. His work is excellent.

After your barrel is threaded, you've got more accessory options... and a SAFE method of attaching and operating.

so im thinking for my 15-22 i need a red dot right that would be the best best. I want the red dot like the one discussed previously in this convo but i also want one that i can use in sunlight. What can you boys suggest? Red dot, cross hairs and what kind. Thank you guys

Hmmmm... if you want a SightMark holosight to work well in direct sunlight you might want to get in touch with Vitamind3. I'm sure he can hook you up with some kinda PVC hood for it......
 
Instead of tellin you which scope to buy which I'm sure some1 will... I'm goin to make a suggestion ..go to a gun show or large retail gun store(bass pro) and pick up everthing and see what u like the best.. mainly because you are the 1 it has to impress not me or any1 else.. don't buy it there thow unless u have money to burn just write down what it is and see what you can get it for...(ex) I already had my optics on back order waiting and put a 40 mm barska red dot on it I had layin around... went to a gun show and found a scope I love illuminated crosshairs and built in laser together guy asked me 220 for it I said thanx and moved on ordered it from sportsmans guide for 150 shipped to my door
 
i aint trying to impress anyone i am just confused. I want a scope for the damn gun but do not know which to get because i want to be able to see the damn target at 30 yards and need to know what i need to install it on the gun. THATS ALL

This damn red dot will get the damn job done. Buy it with the damn cantilever mount, then go shoot the damn thing and have a damn good time. DAMN IT

When I posted that. I wasn't being an ass or atleast that wasn't the goal I just ment that it would give u a better understanding of the optics from 1 to another.. I was actially trying to help.. I would look for a red dot with a 3 moa dot cause at 100 yds a 5moa dot will cover the whole target.. I've got a barska reflex on my gsg5-sd I gave about 40 bucks shipped to my door that has the multible reticle set up I like it for the money.. I just picked the reticle I liked zeroed it in and have enjoyed it ever since... I don't really know how u shoot ur gun but for fast target acquisition a reflex is really nice.. I've never been in a situation that I could not see the reticle but I guess if u squirrel hunted or duck hunted with it the sun may be a prob..ncstars tatical mkiii scopes r nice for the money also and if the batteries go dead they still work... sorry if I came across the wrong way

It's cool. There's a gazillion choices out there and you wanna make the right one -- for you.

At 30 yards a shooter can be as accurate with a red dot as the 15-22 is capable. No problemo.

If you are concerned if a red dot sighting system is right for you then consider picking up a $30 Tasco at WalMart. You don't even have to mount it on the rifle. Just look through it and see if you like the concept or not. If you want to shoot at paper targets, tack one up 30 yards away and check it out. Keep both eyes open and see if that's something you like too. If you like it and want to keep it, then you'll likely want a 3/4 inch riser for it and you'll be good to go. Or return it to WalMart, and then check out the gazillion choices.

Once you've determined if the red dot sighting system is what you want or not.... c'mon back here and those gazillion choices will make a lot more sense. And like Belt_Fed said, a gun show is a great place to learn.

For a newcomer with a flattop looking at all the available options has gotta be pretty confusing.
 
I'm a newby don't claim to be any type of hunter and I agree that it is extremely confusing. So why buy a dot system vs an old fassion reticle? Is there some type of advantage to an electrical system that is dependent on a battery?

personally I love the option of multi-dot reticles because it all depends on the situation. Sometimes I will shoot clay pigeons so I will use a simple dot. When I am on the hunt I tend to use either a circle with a dot, or a cross with a dot in the middle for more precise work. The smaller the MOA dot the better(for me anyways). I hate having a larger MOA because when you shoot farther out the dot will take up the hole target(I see it as shooting with luck at greater distances).

The red dot system is a nice quick acquisition to the target as well. With scopes you usually have to have eye relief(How far your eye has to be from the scope). With red dots there is no eye relief(you can place that red dot any where on the gun without a problem). That dot will be as accurate and will go as far as your eye can see.


It basically comes down to preference. I would suggest going out and shooting a pistol or small rifle with a red dot, it can be a lot of fun compared to scopes.

it's all personal preference. to me, i plan to use this rifle to shoot targets and the occasional varmint at 50yds or less. i have a red dot optic. no eye relief or paralax which makes it nice for multiple users to shoot. don't need a consistant cheek weld either because there it no eye relief or paralax.

if i wanted to shoot more precise or at longer distances, i'd go to a traditional magnified scope.

chattanooga said it best, but a cheap red dot at wally world and see if you like it. if not, take it back. the possiblities are endless, that's what makes this little rifle so much fun.
