So my wife and I got tired of our 6 year old watching those horrid Disney shows with nothing but smack talking teens...so tonight, I took out the ipad and sat her down with her brother Dino (he's 3) and we watched youtube clips from the our gang series. Well, I never seen her laugh so hard. So did Dino. Of course, she did want to know why some of the kids in the talent show dressed up in black face...that one was a bit harder to explain....

I can tell you watching some of the shows even for perschoolers is bad. Right now I am trying to wean the boy off Dora the Exploror and some of the others. I have told the wife and alot of others that what the kids learn now is causing alot of the mess we are in now. We prefer some of the learning shows, where the ones we avoid are the ones with just stupidity and yelling and shouting and don't teach them anything. Dora and Diego might be learning shows but they are so annoying about it that you want to still a drill in your ear. Not to mention I want the boy to learn English first, spanish can come later. I remember watching the Little Rascals when I was a kid, and loved them. The only guilty pleasure I have passed on to the kid right now are Loony Tunes, so far he really likes Taz (older ones, not the newer ones)

In NJ as a kid in the late 50's I used to come home from school, and the Stooges and the Rascals were hosted by a Police Officer named "Officer Joe Bolton". Possibly on channel 9 or 11 then in the NJ/NY area.

Always liked the Rascals.

I recall when SNL started using Eddie Murphy playing.....Buckwheat.

Remember the "Our Gang" get together on SNL? And Darla was a Hooker, her fake fur was none other than Petey??

There was even life messages in the Little Rascal shows such as the shows bully (Butch). They always seem to out smart him. I don't believe they ever got into a fight.
