On the way home today, I picked up some burgers from a well know Texas fast food chain. My parents watch the kids until I get home in the evening when my wife works late. My mother has spent the last 60 years or so helping to raise 7 younger siblings, 4 kids and 6 grandkids. Instinctually she checked my youngest's burger to make sure it was plain and dry like she likes it. Sitting on the patty was a sliver of metal about the size and shape of a fingernail clipping and sharp as can be on each end. If she had been in a hurry, or my wife hadn't worked today, I have no doubt she would have eaten it. I know it doesn't seem like much, but as a parent it sends shivers down my spine thinking about it.
I don't have a clue as to why, but this is just one of many times lately where potential harm has been averted by just the smallest of actions. More so than I have ever noticed before. Whether its God looking out for us, dumb luck or wise grandmas I don't know. But I need to remember to be more thankful for all three.
We did call the place and warn them, by the way. Hopefully nobody else gets what we avoided.
