Load for .45 Colt???

Since I have it for so many other loads, I tried W231 (7 ~ 7.5g) with a 250g cast boolit and I liked it - a lot.

That said, I fell prey to the lure of Unique for this round. 8 ~ 9 grains with a 250g boolit is nice and I settled on 9g as I like the original 900fps of the BP load. 900fps is a magical speed.

If I want a magnum, I'll break out a magnum and use it, but this old girl (25-7) only shoots 900fps. One day many years from now when my grandkid(s) are dividing my firearms, I want this to be good as the day I bought it in 89.

To put it into perspective, the 900fps 255g load has enough energy to penetrate a horse and get the bad guy hiding behind it at 100 yards. The U.S. Army specified and got this round for that particular reason. Not bad for a non magnum. :)

WHAT?! The 45 Colt is possibly the MOST RELOADED cartridge on the planet. Every reloading manual ever written has covered it. There are TONS of reloading data for it on any powder manufacturer's website. Why in the name of heaven would ANYBODY go to a webpage and asked for such information? Its foolish beyond belief.

Hopefully to clarify

Yeah, coming to the RELOADING section and asking other members to share RELOADING information is foolish.

I understand what Dusty is saying. I didn't for a minute believe that the op was asking for loads that were outside of any manual. I think he just wanted to know what we shot out of our 45 Colts, that's all.

We got some new smilies!

:worthless:

Found another good load for my 625-9 Mtn. Gun today. 11.5 grains of HS-6 under a 255 grain LSWC. Didn't have the chrony out today, but I'd estimate it's a little North of 900 fps. The recoil is not bad at all. Noticeably less sharp than Linebaugh's favorite load of 13 grains of HS-6.

10.5 grains is Hodgdon's max for standard pressure 45 Colt, and this load was one listed by Brian Pearce in one of his Handloader articles on the Ruger New Vaquero.

For a 250 gr. cast bullet, I like 10 gr. Unique.

10 grs =1013 fps
10.5 grs= 1053 fps

These loads were fired in a 4.2" Redhawk and while they are +P loads, they are not at all dangerous in an N frame Smith.

Because some of us like to BS about things. Anyone that doesn't like to BS in a forum is FOOLISH BEYOND BELIEF.
