Needed a couple of holsters and stumbled upon Lobo Gun Leather here in this forum. The price was right and the turn-around time short so I placed the order for two model 1 pancakes.

All in all I couldn't be happier. Both holsters ride great and the fit is perfect. I went with a basket-weave unit for range use or OC for my 686 and a dual-carry unit for my SP-101.

The dual carry option works perfectly when worn cross-draw while driving and strong-side when going incognito. It rides nice and high and conceals well.

I have no idea how basket-weave tooling is performed, but it cannot be easy to do. I've gone over this holster very closely and am blown away by the detail. Cannot find a single flaw in the tooling. Amazing.

Great job Ray!

Thanks for posting this, and for your kind comments.

For those that are interested, the basketweave tooling is performed with two tools. One stamp makes the basket impression, each one is applied individually with the impressions linked. One stamp makes the border impression. Tool alignment is critical, as each impression is permanent with no way to correct an error.

Basketweave leather gear was in great demand back in the 1970's and 1980's, and I have made hundreds of holsters and accessories for law enforcement officers. Demand tapered off during the 1990's, and I had pretty much considered it a thing of the past. I received a couple of requests for basketweave tooling earlier this year, so I dug out my tools and produced the orders, posted photos on the website and started receiving orders right away.

Each piece takes a little time to do, so I charge a little extra for the work.

I have followed Lobo thru this forum for several years now, and have always been impressed with the dedication to excellence and service,
but those holsters are really things of beauty!
WOW!!!

Those are great looking holsters. I think my next holster will be a Lobo.

That basketweave holster looks amazing. Can I ask how "stiff" is Lobo's leather? I am very close to ordering but I am not a fan of soft/wet noodle type leather.

No wet noodles here. :D

In my humble opinion, the leather is just right. Not hard, stiff, and dried out like some of my Hume holsters, yet not "soft" or flimsy either. The leather quality is on-par with Sparks & Haugen (the only other custom holsters I have).

I'll tell you how I feel about his work, you buy it and if you don't like it, I'll buy it off of you. (I've probably got something around here that could use it, if not, a trip to the pusher ;) )

BTW, here's mine

I have a holster from Ray for all of my handguns. They are the only ones I use except for my 645 which I use a Kholster. The fit is perfect as well as the workmanship in Rays holsters.

I've neglected my duty in not posting pics of the latest rig I got for my 1911 from Lobo Gun Leather. The belt was also made by Ray. Excellent work as expected, Ray ...... sorry it took me so long to post.

Ray, great looking holsters. Do you offer suede lining?

Mickey:

I offer both suede and smooth leather lining. I also have a few remnants of brain-tanned deerskin, which is fabulous, but when it is gone I haven't a clue where I would ever find any more.
