I have been going to a shop about 20 min drive from my home for about 35yrs. They are now under new management and everything is marked up over 40%. They also sale a lot of stuff on GB so I bid on things and go and pick them up and save on shipping charges. So today I was informed that I won a bid for some shotgun shells. Go to the store to pick up my order and was told that I now have to pay a shipping fee for in store pick ups on all items won on GB. I like to support the local retailers instead of the big box stores but I will not be going back to this place anymore. It's sad when the mom & pop shops start to contribute to the destruction of the shooting sport.

Did you bother to tell them how wrong they are?

So they're not happy just receiving inflated GB prices they want shipping too. I would've told them what they can do with those shells and then leave bad feedback on GB. Lots of sellers there over charge for shipping. I recently bought a Kahr 9mm and post said buyer pays actual shipping cost. I asked what it would be based on my zip code. They told me $40. It was going from Oregon to NY. When package arrived via USPS it was a flat rate boxed and shipping was $16. That's an extra $24 profit.

The new owners' business model seems to include taking advantage of every customer, applying a "gotcha" on every transaction.

Time to find a new source.

That said, a local FFL dealer provided transfer services for me over the course of about 20 years. Always good service, and always a very fair charge for the time and effort involved. Small family run business, usually 3 or 4 people running the shop. More than once I dropped a little extra on the counter and asked them to have lunch on me, a simple way of saying "thank you" for their assistance and courtesy.

I had a LGS that sold on GB, every gun in the store was listed. I'd use GB to see new inventory, but never actually bought from them online.

I'd go down to the shop and take a look if something popped up I liked. They would always give me a better price than the posted GB price since they didn't have to pay the fees.

I know nothing of this situation. But I do know that being a small business owner is very hard now due to covid, gov. policies, taxes and fees and inflation. People can't afford to do a lot of what they used to do.

I've been very lucky. I found a one man shop near me and the owner is a great guy. He's given me enough money off guns that I bought him a SCSW for the shop. He normally doesn't ship, but he will for me. He also sticks to his guns really well on the prices we set on the guns I consign, even though I give him $50-100 wiggle room, depending on the piece. He's a friend. And so is his Saint Bernard!

Dropped a $20 in the tip jar at my goto battery/alternator/starter shop when I picked up some 6VDC batteries for the our home inverter/charger system.
I've been using them for decades with my boating clients as they don't make mistakes.
Often I just sent the boaters over so they meet and send their buddies over for auto and boating needs.
They often solve a vehicle's issue in a few minutes.
No charge and give them an extra part as well.

Newest worker said I didn't have to do that as you send us $$$$.
My reply... the case of beer doesn't fit.

The shop has the item in the store.
The shop lists that item on GB
You bid and win that item off of GB
You go directly to the shop that listed and has that item...
and they charge you for 'shipping' to recv the item you bid on and won that they have in the shop and it never left there??

Is that right?

Do they charge admission to the GunShop too?

40% price increase across the board in the shop seems a bit steep.
The shelves should have been empty when they took over.

Looks like another Business headed for the pasture.
I agree you like to support local businesses.
But you also like local businesses to support local customers.
Not assault and rape them over the counter when they walk in and try and do business with them.
JMO of course.

Some boatyards added 10%-30% to our electronics invoice.
Owners understood that.
Went to check on why we didn't hear from an owner and to setup a seatrial date and time.
Deep keels needed high tide.
Our invoice was paid and he had no issues with the yards add on.

Owner said the estimate for all other work was 7K.
Bill was for about 30K.
No cash.
No splash.

Advised him to get an attorney asap and that this yard was going to close as the preforming arts center was expanding.

The Boat maybe affordable but the rest may not.

When a buddy and his better half sailed in from Eastern Long Island with me, running before an approaching storm, they fell in love with sailing.
They said they were going to buy a nice used 50' motor yacht for starters.
You can afford the boat but not the upkeep, so they bought a nice new 28' twin I/O.
First time the props touched bottom and sheared the drives, they
understood.
He should have let the Mrs captain.

The funny part... when we were sailing in from Eastern LI,
I bought a bushel of clams before we left the Great South Bay.
Wet the lines with clams as bait.

(if you're moving forward in a boat and not towing a water skier, you must have lines in the water or you will go to jail) :D

Seas were getting bigger/steeper, with an outgoing tide, as we skirted the coast and surfed in thru Breezy Point, wing on wing.

As I was anchoring he threw the clams overboard.
That's our dinner, I yelled, but it was too late.
He paid for dinner at Lundys.
