locktite your 15-22 MOE strap loop

Just a heads up to locktite the nut on your 15-22 MOE strap loop/QD.

The nut holding the strap loop/QD on my new'ish 15-22 apparently backed out at the range the other day and the loop/QD fell off onto the bench (I have not purchased a strap yet so not sure why it backed out like that). I could not find the nut so emailed S&W customer support to find out where I can purchase a replacement nut. They emailed back 10 min later that a new nut was on it's way to me (thanks S&W! excellent customer service)


On another note.. I want to purchase a Larue QD mount to install a Burris ar-tripler onto my 15-22. I emailed Larue and received a reply that they do not recommend their mounts on the 15-22 because of the plastic picatinny rail. Can anyone recommend a metal replacement for the picatinny rail on the 15-22. I have a Larue QD mount for the Burris ar-332 on my 15-22 currently (no issues as of yet) but would like to upgrade to a metal rail if it's do-able.

I have used all sorts of Larue mounts on my 15-22 with no issue. To me, a picatinny rail is a picatinny rail no mater what it is made of.

You can upgrade to a metal handguard with its rails, but the rails on the 15-22 upper will always be plastic.

Jim is right, a swap out handguard is an option but that will mean the mounts will be way forward.
You could try a riser block made of metal to sit your mount on the upper, if you are bothered that your mount may cause issues to the polymer.

I wonder if Larue is worried about the integrity of the polymer rail or his mounts ability to constantly return to zero when mounted to softer material.

I too have been using all sorts of QD mounts on my receiver rail since I bought my 15-22.

There has been some damage caused by Larue mounts not adjusted correctly (too tight) and forced on the rail. I think it's Larue just covering their butts.

I'm an American Defense fan since it uses a clamping method instead of the cam approach. Both work great, I just like it better.

My Magpul sling mount backed out on me at the range as well. I would recommend anyone locktight theirs if they plan on keeping it.

I'm a big fan of ADM mounts as well. I'm sure Larue mounts are awesome since a lot of serious shooters use them, I just found something I loved and stuck with it.

Now the Burris PEPR mounts are a small step down IMO. I have one on a 1-4 that goes between rifles constantly. It does return to zero well. I just don't care for the levers locking mechanism, weight, or looks as much.

One reason I like ADM mounts so much is that you can have the levers lock to the front or back. I had some clearance issues with my removable brass catcher mount. The lever on my RECON mount would hit it and not lock all the way. I didn't want to move the RECON up a notch on the rail since that would put me on the handguard, so I flipped the levers and it's all good.
