a while back I came across some badly rusted Smiths. A model 10 that was unshootable because of severe pitting rust on the cylinder and the end of the barrel. The end of the barrel was actually rusted away. I replaced the barrel and cylinder and came up with a fair pistol. I am going to send it off to have it replated after christmas. Another of the guns was a 629 that was the worst of the bunch. It was unsavable. The third is a model 57 that has some pitting rust. Its a blued gun and I dont think it will ever be pretty again. I was wondering if I might make it a project gun. I was thinking of changing the cylinder and barrel to another caliber. I was thinking 10mm. I don't even know if it can be done, thats why i'm asking. does anyone know if it can be done. It's just a project for when i'm bored. If it can be done that would be cool to have a long barreled 10mm target pistol. What do you guys think?

I have a long barreled target revolver in 10mm. It's a 6.5" barrel Model 610, and it's deadly accurate. I also have a 6" barrel Model 57 that was my duty gun for over 20 years.

If the conversion could be done, it would make a nice revolver, but I don't know if it would be worth the expense. You might just want to have the Model 57 refinished.........

Hope this helps.
