Looking at 45 shelds

Like I said, I am looking at shields in 45.
To those who have or have shot them,,,
Would you get a regular or PC ?
I know abort the porting and not worried[shot too many magnum revolvers
in training for that to be a concern/fear]
Is the trigger and sight enough to justify the price,
or is a trigger change in the cards?[All my glocks have trigger tweeks,
my 9mm shield needs one]
And yes. I am a trigger snob![Revolver shooting you know!!!]
I am changing to 45 because I don't trust the 9mm to open up
from short barrels with my trusty 9BPLE +P+ and a 45 does not need to...

I have both and like the PC model best. Better trigger and sights. The porting does not cause an issue regardless of what others may think about porting... It is a 45, not a flame throwing magnum.

I personally think 45 in a 3 inch barrel sub compact gun is ridiculous. The XDS first gen is horrible and as much as springfield wants to claim the mod.2 is better, i shot one yesterday and not really, no.

The shield even with ports on a PC model isnt great either.

I know its all personal preference but i would never buy a gun in 45 at that size. 9 and 40 much better to control and get back on target along with added capacity.

And have you ever tried 124gr +p Gold dot in your 9mm? It is widely considered to be the most consistent and almost always opens up perfectly.

Plenty of youtube videos to support my statement on this. But again, all personal preference. I will never fault someone for carrying 45, but i will always have a discussion with them, lol.

I couldn't have said it better. I have the exact same experience, and glad I gave the PC Shield 45 a try. It's got its role in my carry rotation, and serves it well.

I have the regular 45 and I did have a few issues with the magazines early on, but I love the accuracy of this little pistol. Delivers a nice handful of slow moving solid 230 grain 45 ACP energy in a small package; the perfect close quarter self defense firearm as far as I'm concerned. An outstanding value, too.

I don't have, nor have I shot the PC version, but I do have the standard no-safety version. Personally I can't justify the extra bucks for a gun that blows soot inside itself. My standard is soft shooting, reliable, has a decent trigger, and accurate, everything I need, nothing I don't. Ultimately, it's your choice, but aside from the cool factor, the PC is a solution to a non-problem. JMHO

I have the regular non ported old school Shield .45 and stock trigger and all I can literally with slow fire at 21ft get 1.5" groups. The XDS triggers do suck but the MOD2 in 9mm is very soft recoil and easily concealable. The Shield .45 is a great gun for people who have short fingers

My only concern with the PC .45 is the ported will drop the velocity 50fps and that can make a difference in a short barrel gun. The non ported and non 2.0 is very accurate and double taps are a cinch

Well, yes it is personal preference...I have a Shield 45, and I love it. It's just the right size for carry, it's soft shooting, and accurate. I've owned a number of compact/subcompact guns, but this is my absolute favorite. I actually like it better than the Shield 9mm I had previously, because it has the updated grip texture and better trigger.

As for control and recoil, I find the .40 S&W to be the worst of the bunch. Granted, I've never had a Shield 40, but I have had a Glock 23 and a SD40VE, and they were much less comfortable than comparable pistols in 9mm and .45 ACP.

X2 . I just bought one today. Awesome pistol. I got PC .45 with Tru Glows. I did own a Kimber compact .45. S&W is way better.

I have the standard 45 Shield with the safety.
I wanted the safety which you can't get on the PC version.
I find the Shield's safety to be very positive and easy to operate, yet it won't get accidentally switched because it is low profile.

I have installed the Hi-Viz fiber optic sights like the PC version offers.
If you don't want a safety (and don't mind the porting), I think the PC version might be worth it just to get the better sights - fiber optic, or night.

I'm extremely happy with mine and have no plans to do anything to my trigger - other than fire more rounds through it!

I have a .45 Shield, the regular version. I did not expect to enjoy shooting it, but I actually do. I find it easy to shoot well and surprisingly accurate. I have the version with the thumb safety. I cannot load the magazine without using a loader such as the Uplula.

I have a PC model and my wife has a 9mm PC Shield. We love the sights! Also the trigger is nicer and the porting is nice. I am very very impressed with the Shield line!

Neither the porting nor trigger make a substantial difference.

If you intend to upgrade the sights, the PC model could save some money.

Both the Gold Dot Short Barrel and Hornady Critical defense are formulated to open up when shot from short barrel guns. Bigger holes bleed out quicker.

The manual specificies twice to NEVER use ammuninition not specified for the gun (+P+), saying it can damage or even RUPTURE your gun. Remember, the Shield is a subcompact, not a full size duty weapon.

Have owned the Shield 45 for over a year now...love it..good trigger, easy to shoot, not a lot of recoil, conceal's great....

But getting ready to go back to a 9mm platform and again will purchase the Shield 9. Regular 2.0 with the upgraded sights....

Don't think any Shield is a bad choice....it's #1 in my book...

PC shield is ok, but I have no use or need for a vented barrel or slide.

Take some time and look at ballistics and newer 9mm ammo. Your not gaining anything by moving up to a 45. There is a reason the FBI went back to 9mm after a lot of testing.

The newer bullet designs put the calibers on pretty much the same level. I'd rather have more rounds then a slightly larger bullet. No body will notice the thousand's of a inch diameter when shot. Having that extra few rounds might be a life saver in the same size gun.

9mm is no .45 but its 9m vs 11mm. I am a hardcore believer in a bigger bullet makes a bigger hole. That's a good thing. My EDC pistol is always a .40 or .45. Flame away but bigger holes are better!

The repeated statement about the effectiveness of 9mm ammo.... "With todays ammo and bullet technology, there is no difference between the 9mm, 40 S&W and .45 ACP." Followed with "Thats why the FBI switched back to 9mm"

My response is that the same ammo and bullet technology that improved the 9mm also improved the 40 S&W, 45 ACP and every other round.
The FBI went back to the 9mm because of the lowered physical requirements of their agents that could not attain a qualifying score. Also, 9mm cost less and is easier on the pistols for service life.

Wait until there is another Miami type situation and history will repeat itself and the FBI will be back again to larger calibers.

IMHO; 9mm's have a place, but they don't equal a 40 S&W or a 45 ACP in effectiveness, no matter how you spin it.

I have the .45 non pc version. It did replace my 9mm shield as my EDC after some time testing and comparing. I was more accurate with the .45, much to my suprise. I went with TFX sights, as PC were Fiber, but not illuminated. I hope I never need to use my gun, other than at a range or having some fun in the woods, but having the sights illuminated to have sight reference in low light is important to me.

A .22 will do the job, but it's a matter of how well it does the job. I want to stop the threat now, not wait an hour for him to bleed out. The new ammo is better, but it is better in everything. Take a look at the ARX ammo being marketed by Ruger. It doesn't expand at all, but fluid dynamics tends to make it act like a Cuisinart, and it's accurate. 9mm is nasty, but .45 is nastier, I'll stick with nastier.

Plain old NTS .45. Also an old wheel gunner who appreciates a nice controllable DA-style trigger.The little thing is ridiculously easy to shoot, accurate, and feels about like a 9mm with 185s. I find it less noticeable to wear all day in a De Santis OWB than my J frame in a "pistol pocket", and a lot quicker to get to.

Love my regular 45 shield. Pleasant to shoot, handles well and is one of my most accurate guns.

Personally I wouldn't pay for the PC version because mine just shoots so well.
