I saw one of these today, and it spoke clearly to me that it needed to be in my pocket. I just wondered if anyone has one, and if so, how do you like it ? Anything you would change ? Fit and finish up to par for S&W ? I have had a 642 for years, and it's been a great gun. Although I love it...I have always wanted a J frame with a set of night sights. The shape on these is pretty close to the standard ( not the odd angles of the PC guns ) and it just speaks to my wish list !

I am on my second one.
I foolishly traded my first.
There seems to be a solid consensus that S&W got this one just right.
I like the sights, day or night.
At first, I didn't think I had a use for the moon clips, but they are handy for loading and unloading at home. I still carry reloads in a strip. I think the clips are too fragile to just put in a pocket, and I would rather carry a strip pouch than a clip pouch on my belt. Maybe I will change on that, also.
And, if it matters, no lock.
I also have a no lock M442 for pocket carry, but I may find that the M640 is usable there, also. Mostly, I carry in a Lobo Original Pancake holster, stoked with Speer 135 gr Gold Dot Short Barrel plus pee ammo. And,as I said in another post, the gun may be useable with the light SB Magnum, also, but I haven't found any.

Best,
Rick

My 640 Pro Series is one of my favorites. i carry it off duty in an Uncle Mikes kydex holster. I have a very old pager pouch (from back when pagers were the size of a pack of cigerettes) that holds 5 moon clips very well. If I pocket carry it in the summer, I drop a couple of 5 Star speed loaders into my other pocket. It is definitely one I would never sell or trade. I will pass it on to one of my kids or grandchildren.

The ammo I use is Hornady Critical Defense 125 gr. 357. I have ordered some Critical Duty 135 grain 357 and will switch to those when they come in.

I have a 640-1 and, if I understand your question correctly, one of the comment's you want are opinions on pocket carry of the 640 pro. I pocket carry my 640 with no difficulties. It does weigh more than my 642 but is much more manageable with less disruptive recoil. If I ever had to use it I want every advantage I can get for each shot going precisely where I intend. I have heard similar comments regarding the 640 pro. Many think its too heavy for pocket carry but for me it works fine.

I retired my 642 to my safe for the 640 Pro. I'm carrying it in a Remora IWB holster. There is quite a difference in weight from the 642. For me, I don't think it's a pocket gun. I don't think I would have had a problem carrying the 642 in my pocket even though I never did. I also used the Remora when I carried it. I'm sure as I get older I'll switch back to the 642 when the weight starts bothering me. But for now it goes everywhere I do. :) If you search 640 Pro there are plenty of older threads on the shoot ability, sights, ammo, etc.

OK...I guess my search skills aren't as good. I put in 640 pro in the search tab and get nothing. Am I using the wrong line ? Something I must be doing wrong...
For targeted searches, sometimes using Google and specifying which site you want to search gets better results than the search function of the forum in question.

So in the Google search window, use 640 Pro in quotes -- "640 Pro" -- combined with site:smith-wessonforum.com:

"640 pro" site:smith-wessonforum.com - Google Search

That's only the 2nd one I've heard of for sale in New York State since I've wanted to put eyeballs on one now for 2 years. One other in Vermont a member here had for sale but would not let me meet him to see it. Very illusive it seems. Snag it if you have an inkling or it will be gone. My LGS has had one on order for me for nearly a year. Gunbroker? Maybe, we'll see. I'd like to honor my order.

Stay safe, John

Best J frame I have ever owned, and I have owned and carried a few...

In a gal o ankle glove you forget its there. In a pockets its a little heavy, but full power magnum loads make it worth it.

I put a set of hogue bantam grips on mine and never looked back.
