I'm looking at an about 80% blued K frame 22 LR with a 4" bbl., adjustable sights, that I believe is a model 17. Or could it be a model 18? Not sure when model 18's came to be, nor am I sure if 17's came with a 4" bbl. The serial number is K246560. Can anyone tell me the year of manufacture? Ballpark value? I'm guessing the late 50's maybe. I have no access to the model number under the yoke. Thanks for any help.

There won't be a model number because it's mid-1950's gun. It sounds like a K-22 Combat Masterpiece (predecessor of the Model 18).

I have no idea if your grading criteria is like mine, but 80% is a pretty rough gun. If the bore and mechanics are good, it's probably worth around $450.

Chad is correct. It is a .22 Combat Masterpiece from either 1955 or 1956. Serial numbers on either side of it were shipped in those two years.

I also agree with him on the price. If it is really only 80%, $450 is about as high as I'd be willing to go and I probably would not go that high. There are plenty of them around that grade in the 90 plus percentage range for around that price or a bit higher.

Likely a bit more than 80% if it cleans up. Don't know so my 80%. Here's two pics. Hoping the fingerprints wipe off. Cylinder says it wasn't shot much.

It’s only 1 pic but that looks much better than 80% to me.

S&W cataloged it as a “.22 Combat Masterpiece.” No K-22. No model number. I don’t follow pricing, but a WAG would be in the $500 range.

My one concern is that the finger prints may have rusted into the bluing. I've seen a number of firearms that had perfect imprints of finger prints permanently "engraved".

If the seller will allow it, remove the stocks and use a lightly oiled micro-fiber cloth to wipe it down. While you are at it make sure the right stock panel is numbered to the gun. I'm betting it will clean up nicely. Those K22 Combat Masterpiece revolvers are great guns and are typically very accurate. I think everyone should own at least one.

Oh if only that was true - I'd buy every single $400 Mod 18 I came across. More like $550-$650.

Since you are from DFW I thought I would show this somewhat earlier K22 CM that shipped to the Padgitt Brother's Company of Dallas on March 24, 1952. I won't say how much I paid for fear someone might report me for theft of property. It was owned by Chief of the Seminole, TX PD, Tom LeBleu.
