I have a chance to buy a Model 64 no dash, no clue when it dates from, it's stainless I think, and has a pinned barrel. It's a really nice looking piece, I haven't checked it out in person yet but am going to do that tomorrow. Normally my ocd doesn't like me to buy a used gun, but I really like this one. If it locks up good and everything should I grab it?

The 64 is the stainless version of the Model 10, often descibed as the "workhorse" of the S&W lineup.

As long as it is in decent shape and the price is fair you can never go wrong with one of these.

Here's my 64-3, a Boston Police issue; I love it!

Yea I'm going to look at it and grab it if all seems ok. Was wrestling with getting a 642 for pocket carry vs a larger sized home defense weapon and saw this one and have to at least look at it.

Model 64s are still used to this by the Illinois Department of Corrections and I'm sure other organizations as well.

DO NOT make the mistake of looking at these as has-been weapons, they still have their role and like I said people are putting them to use for official business not counting the numerous civilians who sleep with a Model 64 by the bedside for home defense. They can (and do) still get the job done!!

I'd jump on that if I had the dough. I don't think you can go wrong with that at all. Given it locks up good like you say.

I'm still shooting the police trade in model 64 I bought in 1978 , 38 special loads do not seem to wear much at all on them.
I used it as my NRA Bullseye Match 38 for 20 years . We shot 3 guns in competition the 22LR, 38 special and 45 acp back then
a Red Dot sight on it has allowed me to continue shooting as I approach 70...Sweet revolver and I have no idea how many rounds have gone through it...with not one repair or adjustment !

Jump on it !

I love the standard barrel on the model 10-5 and the 64 no dash.
at one time I did not like the looks of them but have changed since getting older. I now own both.

I like the standard barrel, especially on a Model 64, for some reason, probably because it's not as common as the heavy barrel. As a matter of fact, I avoided buying a heavy barrel one for years, because they were just so mundane, but I tripped over a really nice one not too long ago.

I still haven't shot it, but it's a nice gun, which explains why most everyone had one before I did. :)
