Looking at a model 64

Sure there is such a thing as a "pencil barrel." We're having a conversation about one right now. Everyone here seems to know what it means. Even you.

It's called a

col·lo·qui·al·ism
/kəˈlōkwēəˌlizəm/
noun

1.
a word or phrase that is not formal or literary, typically one used in ordinary or familiar conversation:

Now, excuse me while I duck for cover. :D

You're absolutely right. Some people are way to anal and just want to find a way to argue. As you said, every single person here knows exactly what you mean. If we didn't develop new words and phrases for things, we'd all still be speaking Ye Olde English. Same people that throw a fit when you call "stocks" grips. It gets annoying.

My 64 was issued to me new in 1980.
It was sold to me in 1988 when my PD went with Glocks.

It would be one of THE last guns I'd ever let go.
Beat up & scratched from falling out of a bad issued holster on asphalt while running to save a sergeant from something he'd gotten himself into, the front sight landed so hard it busted the retaining pin & knocked the blade halfway out of its channel.

Blade tapped back in, pin never replaced, holster scuffs added to what the asphalt did.
Still runs like a Ferrari.

In my case, a good friend from long ago days.
And I'd jump on a good pencil barrel 64 so hard the walls would shake.

I have heard though....that the super thin pencil barrels, as narrow and thin as they are, (although super sexy) sometimes have catastophic recoil & failure due to +p ammo being like 9 times as full of energy and that they are prone to rifling just spaying right out like tree tinsel....anyone else heard this? :-> JK.....hope you get and enjoy the revolver!

My Pencil barrel writes with a lead..... so...its a Pencil right?. In aviation older Radial engines are know as Round engines... then theres the elusive ...Motor or Engine... folks said motors are electric....hummmm started motors on commercial aircraft are Pneumatic ...are they Motors???hummm.

I have only one model 64 - it's a bit of a collector's item, and still unfired with the factory box, papers and authenticating letter. It's a heavy-barrel gun that was factory high-polished. Here's the gun and letter that explains it:

I just got another 64 today- my 3rd, in fact. A 64-8, used but absolutely untouched (looks like maybe even unfired), just like new. Shoots perfectly... got it for $200 less than the sale price of a new-in-box 64 in the same shop! You cannot go wrong with these revolvers for plinking, truck guns, home defense, even carry. Hope the OP enjoys the 64 they wanted!

mod. 64

I too have a 64 (no dash) with "slimline" (huh?) barrel. Purchased about 6 years ago and with a little spring work this is easily the best shooter of all the Smiths I have. Probably not going to let this one go!
