someone with a 5" 1911 9mil (preferably a Springfield Armory) and a chronograph.

I want to duplicate a factory Winchester 147 FMJ round for practice.

PM me if you have the above and some time if I send some rounds to test.

thanks in advance

Did you ever get the results?

I was wondering if I should step up my load a little to what your using.

Thanks for any info.

1066,

Thanks for asking. My apologies for not following up as posted.

I is out of town right now...on my phone.

Swamprat was a huge help.

I will post results when I get back.

the following data was obtained from a 5" S/A 1911 9mil

my bone stock PX9130LP S/A 5" shot factory Winchester 147 FMJ FP really well. meaning point of aim out to 50 yds. (of course that was practice...and when the timer is on and you have a string of good shooters to your left and right....my accuracy goes out the door at 50 yds :P) I discovered Winchester no longer manufactures this ammo, so I wanted a start point to try and duplicate this factory ammo for practice on NRA Stock Service Auto matches.

I sent 10 rounds each to get a base line.

I plan to try HS6 and WSF for my lead loads. Since I am punching paper or cardboard with these rounds, I need my gun to function 100% and the slugs need to completely go through the target. I am going to focus on 800-900 FPS and utilize powder that does not leave unburned residue to potentially cause a malfunction (on a really tight fitted PPC 9mil 1911) but with accuracy in mind.

I do not have a ransom rest and I will not sand bag any rounds for accuracy tests. I will shoot sitting, prone and L/R barricade at 50 yds and barricade at 25 yds for base line.

I noticed my two 9mils do not like 115 ball (factory) beyond 15 yd line. meaning my shots drift high. I am not sure if it is me with my particular follow through, but with a 45 acp, I do not drift high with my standard 200 LSWC load of 5.0 231. with powder puff 124s in 9mil or 147s, my gun likes better or it has a different recoil push which works with my particular follow through. I also noticed at barricade shots my follow through is much different than that of a 45acp. I have to grip hard and push into the barricade to get a decent group as opposed to the 45acp where can lighten up on the grip and barricade push and still get decent accuracy.

I do need to modify my stock PX9130LP as I am a high thumb 1911 shooter and my thumb rides the thumb safety. I will not change. the PX9130LP has aggressive slide serrations and shooting softer 9mil rounds and a 9lbs recoil spring causes friction failure to return to battery by my thumb rubbing the slide and the slide serrations sticking to my thumb. in two separate matches on speed rounds, I had at least 3 malfunctions each and the fix was the "TAP" part of the "TAP/RACK/BANG ok RE EVALUATE" drill to get back on the mix. That caused me to hurry my shots and not shoot my possible best score.

I spoke to SA Custom about modifying a stock auto for NRA matches and he (Dave Williams) NRA stock auto is not really stock. He told me I need to install an Ed Brown wide thumb safety and they are angled away and might give my thumb that needed space to keep from rubbing. I will also likely need to get those serrations dehorned. they are very grippy.

hope this helps

I have been looking for LongShot for sometime now.

its not in my area and I dont want to pay the haz fee for a bottle to try out.

it has been on my want list for sometime.

I went to look at the data for AA#7 and found you can go up to 7.2gr with a 147gr bullet too. According to their data that should give you about 1047fps too. Pretty close to what you are trying to duplicate.

Thanks for the follow up. Looks like this load is pretty close to what you guessed in your original post (894FPS).

Based on your velocities I think I'll step up my next batch to a little higher load.

What type of primers are you using?

I have been using CCI primers for 9mil.

I use federals for the lighter 38 SW actions.

I seat my primers hard, never had an issue (Dillon 550 x2)

I have one set up for 38 and one set up for 9mil at the current time.

Let us know what you do and results.
