Does anyone know of anyplace near central Va. where you can park and take ATVs in the back country camping?
Back packing is not as fun as it used to be and I like to be able to take coolers and amenities but still get out there.
Call me sissy, I don't care.

A bit North for you, depending, but there are two places just East of Woodstock-- Don't know about the camping, but see no reason why not.?? GOOD LUCK!!!! :) ATV'ers ruined it for themselves early on, now, as always we all have to suffer-- You might consider West VA. They are a LOT more Sportsman minded than they are in Virginia.;)

Thanks, I'll check that out.
I'm not a trail wrecker and understand the battle following those who are.

Is there any 'back country' left in central VA? It is all owned by someone and posted liberally with No Trespassing signs. I don't think ATVs are much appreciated there.

I'm afraid the ATV people have made themselves unwelcome most anywhere. The last gang that crossed my property, were explained to get the --------------off my property, after a polite request was met with not nice. Suggest you try to make friends with any one left that will listen.

We used to drive and camp in the George Washington National Forest west of Harrisonburg and south of 33, but I don't know if it's still open. It's Meadow Knob and Flagpole Knob area.

There is also a range of sorts back there. Last time I was by it was piped off & locked. :(

We are fortunate to live in SW Utah and are avid ATVer`s. I havent seen any negatives with locals here on riding. In fact the towns around here encourage riding with riding on certain streets etc trying to get the tourist dollars. We are lucky out here as the vast majority of land is BLM and national forests. It would be hard for me to move to areas where you cant step off a road without tripping over no trespassing signs. During good weather we might ride two or three days a week. We are members of a club and have about 20 couples. Usually one of us leads a ride every week or two. Most of us are retired. There are many places around us where you can camp and ride. Many of us pack. I have yet to see any hassles with LE. Out here we have both high mountain and desert riding close.

Thanks all. I'll be looking at the suggestions.
Feral, I envy you in that respect. It's what I think of when I want to go off road for a few days.
As for central Va., I actually mean central mountain area, more to the west. I'm sure most everything is private property but it never hurts to ask.

4 wheelers have really wore that trail down. :D Larry

That picture I believe was on rancher Cliven Bundy`s BLM lease that fought the BLM last april south of Bunkerville and Mesquite Nevada. I dont see how rattlesnakes can live on it. Flew over it awhile back and it is desolate!
