If you own one,I'd like to hear about it.Are they scarce? Average price? Other than the occasional mod.625 that pops up at the gun show now and then,I haven't seen many.

Sir, I wouldn't say they're scarce, but it's a lot easier to find .38s, .357s, and .44 mags. Part of this is that Smith made many more of these than .45s. Also, many people who have .45 revolvers like them and are not inclined to sell.
I don't know that there's any such thing as an average price--there are too many models, too many variables.
Some of the more commonly seen models are the 1917 Army, 1937 Brazilian, 25-2, 625, 325, and the recent Model 22s. There are numerous others that are less common.

Sir, here's a mid-'60s Model 25-2. It's got later stocks on it--the originals would have had a "diamond" around the screw escutcheons. This one has a 6-1/2-inch barrel; some of the later guns came with 6-inch barrels. The sights are plain black, no red inset or white outline. It also has the wide target trigger and hammer typical of these guns.

Hi, I have a 3" 625 I love it I carry it everywhere in a cross draw holster. I also use it as my back-up gun on duty..Yeah it is a full size back-up gun but it is easy to conceal and no one knows I even have it unless you know me and where it is at on my body. I even put night sights on it for police work...My 625 is the one pictured on the top, I sold the other one to a forum member a few months ago.

I always wanted an .4x calibre N Frame and when I saw this early 70's Model 25-2 come up for sale a couple of years ago I couldn't resist. I already own a .45 1911 and since ammo prices in Canada are crazier than in the states it was the least expensive way to get in the game. As you can see, it has a very high polish--I think it's got the nicest blueing of any of my blued revolvers. Mine is wearing Ahrends "Retro Target" grips which I prefer to the factory targets that came on it.
I find it quite accurate, although it shoots a bit high even with the rear sight cranked down. I keep meaning to try some 185 grain ammo in it to see if it shoots higher than the 230 grain I usually use. Maybe it's just me, but I find the full moon clips to be a bit of a pain--if I'm doing bullseye shooting or casual practice I don't bother with them.
In Canada these are probably worth $600-$700 or so, although Canadian prices are a little skewed, probably, compared to the US.

Here's a 25-14. Being 1 of 250 should make it somewhat scarce.
Price wise I think you can still find thenm in new or nearly new conditiion for under $1000.
Here's a fixed sight Model 22-4 that you can still find for around $600-$800 depending on condition.

Yep. S&W Model 25-14, 45 ACP, which it shoots quite nicely I might add

Picked this M1917 up from a friend who was moving out of state (couldn't take it to his new state of residence). He let me have it for $300 (was refinished at S&W by a previous owner). Dealers here wouldn't give him that much for the gun. Complete with S&W Letter, customer service letters for the refinish, 30 or half moon clips, and a couple of hundred rounds of ammo.

IMO 45acp is wasted in bottom feeders. Almost as versatile as 44mag in revolvers, and gets my vote because of moonclips.

I have a 625 that dates from around 1989 when they made a run of the SS guns. It was my first SS gun and I wasn't sure I would like it, but the 45 acp turned out to be one sweet shooter. If I could find a 3" gun I would be a happy camper and would look forward to getting rid of my .45 bottom feeders, especially the black plastic ones.
Meeteetse could not have said it better. The weight and balance of the 4 inch and 3 inch 625's are just perfect I find that I am not fighting a heavy muzzle. I looked for a 3 inch 625 for two and a half years and finally was lucky enough to find one at the gun show. Occasionally I'll find one here; however, I was either a dollar short or a minute late each time.
Other than my 3 inch this 4 inch 625 PC is a dream to shoot. Accuracy is superb.

The top gun here is a 1928 vintage Model 1917 Commercial variation. Its a bit rough, but you don't see many of these. It has since been fitted with a set of period correct non-medallion walnut stocks.

I'm gonna differ from others here. I do love my .45acp revolvers for paper punching. However, if I'm going to carry a .45acp for self defense, I much prefer it in a 1911.

45 acp revolvers are not common, and are sold at a steep premium for the reasons mentioned above. I have not seen one offered for under $700.

By far the Model 25 is now one of my favorite shooters. Easy to shoot and very accurate.
