As reported in another thread, I recently bought a used Model 38 Airweight with roundbutt. It came with the standard skinny little grips and I'd like to replace them something more handfilling.

I bought this gun to carry and I've had problems with rubber grips grabbing my shirt in the past so I'd like to stick to wooden grips.

The rub is that I really don't want to spend nearly half the price of the gun for a set of grips.

Can anyone point me to a good source? Thanks.

There are many grip styles but don't forget the grip adapters that some of us old folks like. Such as the BK grip adapters I have them on my 36 and 13 and they really work for me. Good luck on your search for the best for you. The hunt is half the fun.

I just ordered an oversized grip for my 442 from Altamont that looks really nice with the S&W medallions on them. You should check them out.

Two of my M38s, one with Tyler T and other with some after market stocks that I got for $15 at a local gun show. Both work well.

I like Pachys

The Pachmayer Gripper Decelerators really took the sting out of shooting my 60-15 with full-house Cor-bon ammo. With Golden Sabres it's a joy to shoot. They're around $30.

I like Eagle secret Service grips. Bought a set a long time ago for my M640-1. Put them on my M340 PD when I got it. Feels good in the hand and conceals well, although recoil is worse than with rubber grips, but I don't care in a carry gun.

I've picked up a lot of grips at gun shows for good prices. I've also got some used ones on ebay, but you have to be careful. What looks good in the listing pictures may not look as good on your Smith. It's a bit of a **** shoot.

My model 49 wears Eagle SS grips now, and they are a big improvement over the stock grips, even with the T-Grip installed.

We have something in common...... I'm fat and old too! Try looking on ebay for grips. I have bought around 6 sets there. I got K Targets earlier this week that were VERY nice! I really like grips. Good luck on your hunt! Bob

to the op: do u want to get rid of the grips that came on it?

I'm a big fan of Badger Custom grips but I also like Craig Spegel and Altamont grips. I do not care for Eagle grips at all.

As an alternative my I suggest you consider crimson trace laser grips? I have their CT-105 grips on my 36 no dash.

I have two sets of S&W wood banna style grips, one checkered and one smooth wood. Contact me via PM if interested.
