I'm trying to assemble a modest yet capable set of tools to work on S&W revolvers. The only "set" I've seen on Brownell's that has the needed tools, also comes with a Hogue grip and pocket clip that I don't want to waste money on.

Can someone point me to a good kit or set of tools which have the required items?

Thanks so much!

The tools I use to work on S&W revolvers have been assembled over several years. I don't know what work you are most interested in doing, but I do know there wasn't any kit that has what I now have. Suggestions:

- quality screwdriver set
- hammer with different type faces
- rebound slide tool
- Wessinger type tool for unscrewing extractor rod
- stones of various grits and shapes

And that pretty much covers they work I do.

Thank you. More great suggestions (I also have this thread going in the 1980-present revolver thread).

Cheers!

You are better off just calling Brownell's and requesting one of their catalogs - it's a lot easier to use than their on-line catalog. Spend a few days pouring over it and you will come up with what what you need. Better than a "kit" IMHO because you will get exactly what you need and nothing you don't.

yeah that is pretty much all you need. i have all of those except for the ejector rod tool.

Thanks, guys.

I've already placed an order for a mid-range set of mag-tips and handles, from Brownell's. It's on back order, so hopefully the wait won't be extended. I also ordered up some new stones (mine are old and beat) and a few more odds and ends.

I have yet to order the dedicated tool for removing the rebound spring, because it kills me to ever buy single-purpose tools. I'll see if I can construct something once I crack open the first revolver.
