Howdy,

I have recently purchased an M&P 10 and it has become my primary hunting rifle. I am looking into getting a new Buffer and Buffer Spring and I am mainly looking for quieter operation. If it reduces recoil, great but not a huge deal (I have a brake on her). I am looking into this JPSCS2-10H2.

Any guidance would be amazing, thank you!

Look for a silicone carbide buffer spring. On my AR-15, the OEM was mil spec and good for 50,000 cycles. The silicone carbide springs are rated at 500,000 cycles and the don't go "Boing" inside the buffer tube. You won't need to replace the buffer at all! The springs come in full and folding stock lengths.

I haven't got around to looking for one for my AR-10 yet, probably on the next accessories order.

I placed a thin coat of 3M silicone grease on my AR pattern rifles to quiet them down, including the M&P10 when I had it. The grease is also useful greasing car door weather seals, and other applications which require preservation of rubber, or improved sealing.

Silicone Carbide buffer spring? It would be so brittle it would shatter with the first round. Did you mean chrome silicon buffer spring?

Yes, that's it! I just checked and Midway has the Tubb brand for around $29. (That seems about 30% high)

grease quieted mine down. Some dry lube spray might work well instead. I like Liquid Wrench Dry Lube, grey label. Some springs are polished to cut down on the cheese grater sound/feel. Also, I suppose you could polish the extension tube's bore, and then dry lube.
