I do not have a factory letter for this one to know the exact day it shipped, but according to Mr Jinks this one shipped sometime in February 1916. I have already posted about this gun when I purchased it last year, but since its 100years old now I thought she deserves a new post:) (How often do you turn 100?!)

This one is all numbers matching including the original box. It's not only the oldest gun in my collection, its also the nicest!

Thanks for letting me show this old gun off!

Gorgeous!

Just think, some day many decades from now someone is going to post on the S&W Forum, in whatever shape it is many decades from now, and he'll say the gun is 100 years old, gorgeous, etc. Everyone will be happy to see it and so forth, as we are now with the OP's magnificent specimen.

So even if you shoot them keep your good ones pristine - you're the custodian for a yet unborn S&W collector!!!! :)

How did you find that (shipping date) out without a letter?

One of the perks of being a SWCA member is getting a month and year ship date from Roy. The original post said ". . . according to Mr Jinks this one shipped sometime in February 1916."

The SWCA Database shows another target gun ten digits away from the OPs, so maybe a part of a single shipment to a major distributor?? 240XXX - 249XXX shipped in 1915-1916. Stocks are 1910 to 1920 era. Think that's it for now.

Looks like it just stepped out of a time machine !

BTW IIRC S&W began heat treating M&P's around serial 316648 so best to avoid high velocity ammo with those old girls.
