Looks like we are getting a new 617 and 610 mountain gun

Have to look at one if and when I can find the 10 mm. Last week I posted S&W needs to bring back the 610, so good deal.

Afret - thanks for posting the Lipsey video - I learned two new items by watching the video, they will make more that 42 of the 617s this time, so it appears I may actually have one in hand somewhere in the future. Second item, I have ordered a total redesigned K frame, that they designed with the lock eliminated. Wow, about time S&W listened to what folks wanted. Each to his own desires, but I hate the looks and feel of the full lug guns. I do carry my S&W pistols and the full lug guns make me think I am carrying a brick. I bought a unfired 629-4 mountain gun about 5-6 years ago, it is amazing on accuracy, so it is carried and the 7 shot 686-5 mountain gun also sees holster duty at times. This is what these guns are made to do, in my opinion, to be carried and to be shot and to look good, just like a nice young lady. Did I tell you just how ugly a full lug S&W really is in real life? Look a some of the lines on the guns from 50-75 years ago, beautiful. So when that 617 arrives, I have bricks of ammo in the stash and I can see a lot of ringing steel in my future.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the full lug guns. I have a few but I've been staying away from them recently. Got these in the last month or so but the 629 MG is getting fixed at S&W (so missing in the photo) and I just picked up the 686 MG in the photo at the LGS this morning. I was surprised they had one in stock. Got a 6" model 48 on order. The partial lug guns look much better to me especially with the tapered barrels. Everyone has different tastes. :)

I find this thread fascinating. So many of us are looking at the new no lock releases (many having said they’d never buy an IL gun) and are making comments about how we’d buy it if… (you fill in the blank). OK, I’ll play. Although I had my own “prototype” built nearly a decade ago, I think a Model 616 Mountain gun, a stainless K frame in 327 would be the next, greatest thing to be released. Anybody else want one?
🐸
A 3" K frame NIL revolver in 327 Fed Mag would be very difficult to pass up. Doesn't have to be a mountain gun.

After buying new S&W"s for 50 years two things come mind. I'll not buy another IL model, and I'll only buy one I can find in stock, examine and dry fire. The action on new guns is disgraceful. An old 63 is absolutely obsolete. Please PM me with sale information.

Not surprised, 10mm is the hot "new thing" having many new semi auto platforms and pistol caliber carbine (PCC) applications plus btw you can also shoot .40 SW in a 10mm revolver.
True. I am surprised they have not designed an 8 shot 5.7 N-frame revolver. Better yet, a six shot 5.7 with 3” barrel in a J-frame.

Not happy at all with new 610 mountain gun. After about 25 rounds the gold dot front sight went flying. Swept range around firing point and checked inside of shooting bag but now where to be found. Action is pretty good for a new S&W and after adjusting sights ok. Think I’ll just go to my jeweler friend and get him to correctly install a gold dot….

First target is single action at 15 yards. My eyes are bad and with no gold dot front sight.
Second is double action at 15 yards.
Guess not bad and am contacting S&W customer service regarding the flying gold dot front sight, will see.
