Loose mags in Shield

Picked up a .40 Shield yesterday. Took it to the range today and put 100 rds. of WWB through it. No issues at all. Must say I love the gun. My thumb didn't like reloading the mags though.

One question. When fully loaded both of the mags were very loose in the gun. They had more slop than I would have thought in quality firearm. I showed the rangemaster and he said "As long as they lock in the gun you're good." I thought that was kind of a weak answer.

Anyone else experienced this?

For reloading the mags, get a Maglula Uplula.

Don't know about loose issue.

The mags in my 40c are loose also .. you can rattle them around until they are seated and then no movement at all .. made that way ..

You don't want them overly tight because when having to do a speed reload you want that mag to drop as fast as it can .. one you would have to pull out with your hand could get you killed !!

Uplula the only way to go ..

You didn't mention if the looseness was with the slide locked open, or with the slide closed.

With the slide locked open, it's not uncommon.
With the slide closed, normally it's a tight fit. In fact, many here have complained about how hard it is to seat when topped off (1 in the chamber, slide closed, mag dropped, topped off, then reinserted into the pistol).

The range officer's answer was not weak.

I totally agree, a Uplula will solve the loading problem and save your fingers a lot of discomfort.
I finally took my 40 cal. Shield to the range today. Love it! The slide is stiff and the magazines are hard to reload without a Uplula but I love shooting this little gun!
I have disc problems pinching a nerve in my neck that have caused me to lose the ability to raise my right arm above should level. I'm going under the knife next week to hopefully make it better. I had to support my right (strong hand) with my left so I got tired pretty fast and didn't shoot but four magazines in the Shield. I also shot my MP 9c and my MP 9 pro some. Love all my MP's!!
I shot pretty good today considering my problem with my right arm.

Hey Rob, Its when I first insert the mag, before I chamber a round. Slide closed. The mags fit tight when they're empty. It feels like the weight of the ammo is pulling the mags down.

Its also entirely possible that I have no clue what I'm talking about. ;)

Loose mags--vertically, as in they are not locking in high enough? Or is there lateral movement in the mag well after they lock in?

In truth, I think a loose mag is preferable to a tight one, as long as the loose one feeds reliably. The loose one will go in & out easier.

If the mag well is too large, you can put a small bump of JB Weld inside it to remove slop. You can file it away to almost nothing, or remove it entirely. Easy.

Can you feel the mags are loose, or do they just rattle if you shake your Shield (hmmm could be a new dance craze!)?

In my 9mm, slide open, the mags have some play and can shift around a bit. IMO, this is a good thing as the mags drop free.

When I close the slide, the top round in the mag gets pressed up against the underside of the slide. Spring tension holds everything pretty snugly.

I can still wrestle the mag around laterally and feel some play but I think that's normal and acceptable.
