Finally did it. While cleaning my 15-22 the firing pin spring was lost. Is there any way I can get a replacement? Does anyone know the specs so I might check the hardware store?

Call S&W. They may have extra. If they do they will just sent it to you. I have received several parts for free that way.

Thanks guys. I don't disassemble the bolt every time I clean it, but do on occasion because it does gradually get dirty... Just as the bolt assembly on all of my firearms.

I was fortunate. I finally found the spring. Will have a proper backstop next time.

Glad you found the spring.

For future reference, it is not necessary to disassemble the bolt to clean it. Spraying CLP or some other aerosol solvent through the firing pin hole will flush out anything in there and dry, compressed air will finish the job.

One thing never to do, after blowing the channel out with compressed air, is to put any kind of liquid lubricant in there. To do so will just make it gum up faster. If you feel compelled to lube the channel, a single squirt of DRY graphite will more than suffice.

That is good advice as I believe many do overlube these rifles thinking they're similar to an AR -15 in maintenance. However, I believe it is proper on occasion to do a complete takedown even if its just to inspect parts. I knew better than not to drape a towel or something in front anytime working on parts containing springs. Got lucky this time.

I bought a round stainless steel bowl with a large magnet attached to the bottom for tossing small parts into when when I take ANYTHING apart, these days. The magnet grabs onto any small parts that are steel, while the bowl shape holds any that aren't.

Between me misplacing things and the cat batting stuff around, I spend a lot less time looking for small items w/ the magnetic bowl.

Growin old ain't for wussies...............
