So I made my two hour trip to the range today. I get all set pull out the s&w mp 15-22 and all be damned. I can't find the cable lock key. I call up the wife and i left it sitting at home. Just my luck until next time. If I wasn't staying for three days I wouldn't be this disappointed.

I too would have cut that off. I hate those things so much. Or I would have checked if somebody else had one since alot of the generic locks use the same key.

I really am thinking about cutting the lock. Just not sure if its going to be a pain in the a55.

yeah either cut the lock or try to pick it

I'm sure the place where you're staying for 3 days, someone has some cutters you can borrow. Maintenance man? If nothing else, give it a few whacks with a hammer. Like others have said, I've got several NIB cable locks, so if you want one badly enough, I'll send you one.

See this is why this forum is so awesome. Everyone is willing to help a person out. Thanks everyone. Anyone that wants to send a lock. Give me a pm.

Cut the darn lock already...you actually use those things? I just throw them all in a drawer. Just figured it was the left-wing pervs thinking that they would make evil guns safer. PM me and I'll send you one. I must have several hundred....or I did before all my guns were stolen:)

Is this by chance your first gun? First of all why do you have the darn thing on there in the first place? They are borderline worthless and just something thrown in the box to appease the liberals. Secondly, you should have figured out how to get it off by the time you realized where your key was...

Don't mean to be hard on ya, but people gotta start thinking for themselves.

Apparently the lock is working for the law abiding citizen. Maybe you should try and find a criminal by you cause they would have the lock off in a second. Wait, second thought. Yea the lock would come off but as with your keys your gun would also be missing.

Let's put it this way. My thread would have been titled "Lost key, so I cut the lock off".

Yup, keys to the city! Your shooting range has no bolt cutters? I am sure your not the first one to do this.

Chuck

got a dremel and some cutting discs? It will make short order of that lock if you don't have bolt cutters.

Piling on...
A 2 freakin' hour drive??? One Way ! ! ! OMG

Not for nuttin' but combination locks are the way to go if you are using a lock at all.

Didn't think to go to the local big box hardware store and buy a cheap pair of bolt cutters??? You could even return them after use and get your money back...

Forgot your key???

I was on a bike racing team for years and every now and then some dope...er um meant team mate donchano...would forget his shoes...once only one shoe...really??? I just shook my head...
Also made me make sure I was properly prepared for anything I participated in especially a long distance event.

Betcha won't forget the key...or better yet no key...again hehehe...

I have seen this several times at my local range in the past year. That's why we keep bolt cutters on hand. :D

At home, my firearms are in the vault, except for my carry piece. No need for on-gun locks.
