Lost My 22-Pound Orange Tabby This Morning

I had a similarly large tabby that had huge feet and a great distain for people rules. He lived for his tepid occasional escapes, hunting rabbits and being a loyal buddy. He tolerated women folk, but lived for the bachelor life.

Dogs give love unconditionally. Cats give respect in measured increments. They are true companions - little given, but much earned in respect. Travel well friend.

Thanks so much for all of your kind thoughts and condolences. Tell you what -- for a bunch of grizzled old gun nuts all y'all are a gang of softies when it comes to our four-legged friends.

I'm sorry for your loss, BRB. It's rough losing a furry buddy when they've been with you that long but it hurts to also see them suffer too. :(

We have a female orange tabby that showed up at the house right after a hurricane in 2004 as a kitten and she is still going strong. She still moves around well and occasionally when she thinks nobody is watching she will still play with toys or one of the other cats in the house, but gets embarrassed if you see her playing.;) You wouldn't think she's 16 years old if you see her. She's not a large cat though; my daughter thinks she was somebodies try at breeding up some Munchkin cats because of her short legs.

Here is a pic of Nee Nee taken around a year or so ago.

I have had a lot of cats. It hurt terribly every time I lost one. I have a dog now. Chester is an American Staffordshire Terrier. He has his roots deep into my heart. So did each of my cats. Cats and dogs are wired very differently. One is not better or worse than the other. Just different. I'm sorry for your loss.

I believe that, should I/we get to a lovely hereafter, we will learn much. Including that: where there is love, whether from our fellow humans, or from our pets, we will find that they are there also.

Recently, I have come to believe that love is an essential force of the universe, and it can never be extinguished. As witness to that, I frequently pat the handsome little tin where reside the ashes of my favorite kitty, Smokey, gone now nearly 15 years. (He had been a stray with a previously broken shoulder when he arrived meowing at our doorstep. And for 13 years he justified the highest kindness that could be bestowed upon him, and he upon us.)

I send my sympathies; but moreover, great hope that there is no permanent loss of such blessed camaraderie.

I adopted a pair of shelter cats about 11 Yrs ago; one male orange tabby and the other a calico female. They are "bonded buddies" as the shelter called them and are the sweetest and loving cats I've ever been around. The big boy is Sammie and he was literally so grateful for being adopted he wanted to sit in my lap and lick my arm as long as I could stand it. He got over that but is so bonded to us he sleeps with us at the bottom of our bed. The little girl, Chloe, wouldn't ever join us on the bed.

Sammie is approximately 14 and he's starting to show his age. He sometimes gets disoriented/lost in the house and raises a soulful howl until we call to him. We don't let them out because they are so gentle and tame the coyotes would get them quick. We lost one years ago that refused to stay indoors.

I am sorry for your loss and dread our cats are nearing their time.

Sorry.

Orange Tabby's seem to have their own zip code. There very smart. I have two orange tabby's, out of six cats. One, Garfield lays on anything that's square, newspapers, boxes he can fit in. Lab top computers. Tabby's are thinkers.

I adopt and take in abandoned kittens when there dumped in the woods. I find there way happier when we adopt two or more from the same litter or they lived together. They become very entertaining. Please adopt two.

Orange cats are the best!! Don't know why but the ones I've owned seem to have the most interesting personalities. The present occupant, Pud, reminds you of "Bill the Cat" as drawn by Berke Breathed. Has a dead tail (from when momma ran over him a few years ago and shattered his hip) a bunch of hardware in him and weighs in at around 10 pounds. Skinny, scruffy and very vocal LOVE that f*^(in' cat!!!
