So I was trying to take apart a magazine to clean it and when I slid the bottom plate off, the tab got shot out by the spring. I have no idea where it went. I don't even know what the part looks like, it flew so fast. Can I buy just that piece? It's the round tab that you press down to slide the base plate off. I was thinking of just using some rubber bands to hold it together for now.

Call the manufacturer.
I broke the baseplate by dropping a Kahr magazine. They sent a new one for free.

There's a picture of the magazine parts, including the floor plate catch in the manual on page 25.

Contact S&W customer service for a replacement.

It's doubtful that rubber bands will hold the floor plate in place.

FWIW, it will take a couple of thousand rounds through a particular magazine before dis-assembly for cleaning is required, if then. Blowing it out with compressed air is more than sufficient under normal circumstances.

Consider this a "learning moment". Most firearms magazines have components that are under spring pressure that can go flying when disassembled unless care is taken. You're not the first person to lose a part like this.

i did the same thing. I just taped the base part on with electrical tape.

Try taking apart a SureFire 60 mag for .223.... 3 springs, 3 followers, divider, caps, baseplate.. I'd suggest against taking apart your mags until necessary like stated above.

Yes you can buy one, I did the same thing. Called S&W up and ordered the part, went out pretty quick but you will have to pay for it.
