Love the 686s - pic thread

These are my only two so far.The short one is a -4 and the four inch is a -1.I bought the 2-1/2"new in 1994 and the 4" about two years ago.The 4" is an old sheriff's dept.gun.They are terrific shooters and built like tanks.Even the 2-1/2 isn't bad recoil wise with full power magnums.
Kinda jelly on that 2 1/2" it's a sweet looking gun !!!

I bought a 686 no dash years ago and for some reason I didn't like the look or feel of it so I traded it for a 66-1 which was a much better fit. Years go by and my gunsmith had a 686 no dash in parts that he offered to sell me for $300 so I bought it and put it together. Maybe I didn't like the other one because I hadn't invested enough blood and sweat into it.....I really can't say. The second one, for some reason, is a different story because I love it and would never sell it. Nothing sexier than a 4" 686.

This is just not fair, drooling on my Sunday shirt.

Looks like I will be forced to photo my ole 686 so I can brag on it. Did a trigger job on it about 30 years ago, still shoots good, and is smooth as silk.

the 686 is one of the best guns S&W ever produced in Stainless. I have a 8-3/8 silhouette, 8-3/8 regular w/scope rigs and a 6' and they all shoot great. Next is my 8-3/8 460 and my beautiful blued 8-3/8 Model 25. Have a hard time determining which of them to take to the range.

The 686 8-3/8 is probably my favorite and loves 148gr wad cutters. chews the center out of a bullseye target at 25-50 yards.

Blue70, nice 100th post.

Good catch. Didn't even notice it. The funny thing about this thread is that last summer I passed on a 686 no dash cause it was a 6" gun and the guy was asking $350 for it. I passed on it as I had no desire for a 6" and I felt $350 was too much (I've been getting them for $100-$150 from guys at work) So I let my friend buy it.. lol :D

I had one just like this one that I acquired and when I got into a bind I sold it last year for $600+200 rounds .40 ammo. I thought I had this particular revolver role covered with my Wiley Clapp GP100, so I kept that one instead at the time. Shot a buddy's 3" that he picked up just a couple weeks back, and said I needed to find another. Managed to stumble into this one last week at the LGS for $560otd and just got done cleaning her from her first outing...such a sweet, sweet shooter. Definitely not making that mistake twice. Now to find a matching 617 partner. :D

I was after a pre-lock 686 and this one showed up locally. It had the rubber grips on it which are not my favorites as I prefer traditional looking grips:) Did some trigger and spring work on a friends 586 and he offered me his target grips in exchange:D That worked!

Really loving this gun all dialed in and smoothed out on trigger and action. My grandson has taken a liking to it too:)
