The wife and I are redoing the kitchen. We are repainting the cabinets and changing the pulls and hinges to stainless steel ones. Went to Lowe's to buy 40 new hinges. The salesman showed us packages of 10 that he said was exactly what we needed. We needed 40 so bought 4 packages. 3 of them had already been opened but he said he repacked them and everything was there. So, went to put the 40 hinges on the doors this afternoon and, you guessed it, 39 hinges. I was just a little upset. So it's back to Lowe's to get one freakin' hinge so the painter and I can put the doors on tomorrow.

39 of 40 isn't bad. It's the trips for missing parts that really waste time.

The bane of Home Depot and lowes.gotta check everything before you leave the store.I once brought back a load of framing lumber that was so warped I couldn't use it on a gazebo I was building.I watched them throw it right back in the bins...

Lowes

Bought a expensive Kholer tub/shower at Lowes, 40 mi. away.
Had every thing ready for unit. Bring tub in and unpack. Set tub
in. Had screws in flanges and notice hairline crack in tub. Take it
out, back to Lowes. Raise****, they get me new tub and give me
$25 gift card. Back to ranch. Unpack tub, cracked in exactly same
place as first. Back to Lowes, raise double*****, they give me
$50 gift card and new tub. Opened it in store, same crack! They
finally got me good tub, this was all in one day! So I drive 120 mi
waste whole day and"make $75", gas at $3.79 gal. I am not a
Winner!

Hope you at least got the 10% military discount Lowes gives to vets.

Last month I bought a flush valve for a toilet at Lowe's. I bought the super duper adjustable height because it was a duplicate to my original. I finally got it to adjust to the height I needed, but no way could get water to flow through it. I took it back and they were good with the return. I got another and took it home and took it out of the box and water ran out of it. Yep, it wouldn't flow either. I went to my garage and scrounged around in my best used parts drawer, found an old one and fixed the toilet.

A few years ago I bought a premium American Standard toilet from Lowe's, but when I went to mount it to the floor it was off corner to corner about an inch. Nice rocker. Lowe's does have a good return policy, but it gets tedious returning the stuff.

Whenever I start a project it seems to take nearly every tool I own and at least two trips to town.

Imagine how frustrated the retailers get being delivered all the junky, broken, dented, dinged, scratched **** from the manufacturers.

Just recently bought a nice Delta table saw from Lowes. Had the choice of the floor model (which even the sales guy said would not be a good choice) or the last in-the-box one. Took the in-the box.

Got it home, opened the box to start assembling it. Get probably about 3/4 or more through assembly, and it's missing one lousy parts bag.

Didn't look re-sealed, thing took two guys and a hi-lo to get it off the shelf, styrofoam packing was flawless. Thing was way, way too heavy to take back to the store, so I called Delta.

They shipped a parts pack (all the assorted parts bags, not just the one I was missing,) got it a few days later...

Thankfully, I'm not a contractor, so I don't live and die by the saw...

Needed to replace a lawn mower, nothing fancy just wanted a decent deck and a Briggs motor. Found a 4hp Bolens at Lowes that suited me. One in box left looked like it was missing parts. I took another look at the one on the floor and saw it had gas and oil.

Went looking for sales help, found the head guy for the garden shop and started talking. He checked inventory and told me the nearest one was about 15 miles away. I asked about the floor model. He told me $90. I says "let's fire it up", we walked it outside and on the third pull it started, although at such a slow idle it stalled immediately. Same thing two more times.

I made him an offer he happily accepted, I paid, walked out, took the handles off, threw it in the back seat of my puddle jumper and went home with $149 list price mower for $60.

I rigged a spring for the butterfly throttle and away she goes!

HD does NOT give 10% discount in Reno Nevada.
Just Lowes and Cabela's for a vet.
In Las Vegas, Home Depot gives a 10% discount on certain items only. Sportsmans Wherehouse 5% and Lowes 10% on everything.
Station Casinos has a "Military Mondays" which is 2 for 1 buffets or 50% off for an individual.

Sheridan Home Depot gives ten percent off to vets, active duty, Guard, reserves, retirees and all dependents with an ID card.

Salesman related a good story. Couple comes in for a new thunder mug. Came back later that day and returned it and got their money back. When they opened the box inside was the old thunder mug that they were replacing. Frank

I would have checked the repacked packages but those were the only ones they had at the time and the salesman assured me everything was there because he repacked them himself. No new packages in stock. The packages were so taped up I couldn't have counted them any way. There was also about half the no. of screws I needed in the packages. But, after an hour at Lowe's and back and forth with the hardware manager she finally made everything right and the job is now finished. This Lowe's is usually pretty good about making things right but it's still a pain driving 30 minutes to get something that should have been there in the first place.

One of the reasons I've never really wanted a house of my own, is I hate to "fix" stuff. I'll let the maint people here at the apartments do that.

But, back during the time I did get conned into buying a house, I quickly learned, if I needed 10 of something, buy 12. I would probably make enough mistakes to need the extra two. If they were packed five to a bag, at least one bag would only have four.

If by some miracle, I had a couple left over, I could either put them away where they were never be found again, or take them back to the store, which I never actually got around to.

Specs; a HUGE liquor store, gives a vet discount. When you checkout they ask if you're a veteran. I show my ID crd and get 10% off. They have more kinds of wine than all the other stores in El Paso put together. El Paso is provincial enough they'e the only place that carries Vouvray.
