lubrication

Froglube works best for me.

I've been running Froglube on my 5.56 AR. 1,970 rounds in and my only issue of any kind was a single failure to feed caused by a magazine. Loving the Froglube. I didn't put it on the 15-22, but there's no reason not to. Good stuff and it smells great too!

make sure you take the bolt apart and clean and lube the slides. That's where most of the scratchy noise comes from when running dirty. I use weapon shield and clp to lube and milcom cleaner / degreaser to clean.. but I'm sure you'll hear a lot of different suggestions.

Just a clarification ...

You aren't taking the bolt apart, you are simply taking the bolt off the bolt carrier rails. :)

One further note ...

If you can actually SEE the lube on a surface, you likely have too much. There is no need to soak any part with lube.

switched to frog lube on everything I own. it's even gotten the wife to sit and clean with me.

I use Frog Lube and love it. Works great. It penatrates the metal and makes later cleanings a breeze. I have used it to lube other items and it does great with them as well. I highly recommend it.

Mobil-1 10w30 on all firearms for me. The only place I don't use it but probably could is inside barrel, I just run a patch of Rem oil down barrel.

Everyone has their own special stuff and they all work.
Well, except for the gun grease. I tried it and while its ok when its warm out? When its cold outside, think its a a bit sticky and bindey on moving parts.
Majorik is correct, No on WD-40.
Its not a lubricant, its a water displacer and batch #40 that actually worked. Thus its name.

I'm with you on gun grease. The only place on a 15-22 that one would put grease is on the rails. Even then, less is more. For very cold weather, I just use the same CLP I put everywhere else.

Same deal with pistols, slide/frame rails only.

I actually finished refilling my cleaning/lubing tray today (and yes.. its a tackle box in an oven tray. lol).. figured I'd take a pic so I don't have to type all of it up. heh If this tray doesnt get a firearm clean.. then nothing will. :)

Wow - that's amazing. (and anal) :D

I have seen fewer selections in an operating room.

Good job.
