Lucas brake fluid cleaner CLP

I’ve used it. Cant say it’s any better or worse than anything else.

But it’s certainly better than Water Displacement Formula 40. ;)

Can’t stand for WD-40. It stinks and it’s good for much. If you need a good penetrant, buy Kroil.
Wd-40 is excellent at certain tasks, but not good at long term lubrication or rust prevention. I do not use WD-40 on any firearms at all and would never recommend that anyone else do either as it will over time get sticky and goopy! It is a water displacing fluid, not truly meant for guns, lubrication or mid to long term protection.

OK - that said, WD-40 is excellent as a cleaner on tar, grease, very minor rust, crud and build-up. If you get road tar on your car or wheels, WD-40 is the ticket. WD-40 also works well in cleaning all kinds of fingerprints, smudges etc, off of stainless steel. WD-40 can also remove certain annoying stains and marks that the Grandkids can impart with crayons, markers, etc. It's also great for cleaning pitch and plant goop off of gardening tools, shears, blades, pruners, saws etc. before sharpening and lubrication.

I have at least 7 or 8 cans of Kroil, Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster and a few other penetrating oils. Quite honestly, those will help loosen rusted parts, nuts and bolts better than WD-40 most of the time, but IMO they just don't live up to the hype either. For really stubborn rusted on bolts, nuts or screws, heat is usually your best bet if it can be used in that situation.

Way back when I lived in a trailer and hung with undesirables, I would remove the grips from my good S&W revolvers, put them in zip-loc baggies, and hose them down with WD-40.
Then I'd wrap that in newspaper and store it in a safe deposit box at the bank. Yes, the WD-40 would turn to molasses, but it did it's job. Never had a gun rust (or get stolen).

WD-40 will also remove pine tar/sap; on which is about all I use that stuff.

I’ve never once gotten penetrating oil to penetrate.

The local Rural King carries Lucas oil products. I think I’ll try their CLP.

Anyone who ever had to deal with parts frozen tight after being un-used after the WD-40 evaporated and left it's varnish won't use it again. Yes I am aware they supposedly corrected that issue but it soured me on it and I won't have it around. There are better penetrating oils and better lubricating oils. I will give it it's due as having great water displacing properties and wouldn't hesitate to spray down something after an inadvertent bath. But as soon as I could I would clean out the item and lube it properly.

Going back to the OP's original question re Lucas Brand, I've had good luck with their CLP the last 5-6 years I've been using it, although I find in drier weather if the arm is out (I've a couple in display cases, etc.) they usually need a light wiping more often than those in the safe. The product itself has been totally satisfactory for me.

I’ve been using the Lucas brand while I’m on the road as Ballistol is not always easy to find.
Also the Lucas Bore cleaner..
Anyone else use this? Seem ok longer term?

I use Break Free CLP as cleaner, lube, and protectant (short term). I use RIG(Rust Inhibiting Grease) Universal for long term storage. It's like what you wished cosmoline should have been. Goes on like a very light, clear grease, lasts forever. Wipes away with a rag, cleaning rod and a patch (i do the bores too). Ready to shoot in a minute.

I’ve been using Clensoil on my shotguns and it works great. Have cleaned a couple of my wheel guns with it but have not had them tucked away for a long time. In the old days I used Hoppis but after a long period of time that stuff would gum up and you had to take it apart so the cylinder would turn again.
