Love the sport but I just can't get used to or like the constant co-witness, when the 6x magnifier is flipped to the side from the red dot.

I would replace with an MBUS flip site as the backup.

How much would a gunsmith need to change / replace outside of the gas block if I wanted this done? If anyone has replaced this, how $$ much to do so?

Thanks in advance

I did it myself for under $30, dont have the time to go into it right now but if you search the forum you will find some excellent postings on it.
Good Luck

I had mine done for $25. I wouldn't do it yourself unless you know what you're doing.

If the person studies a little bit and has the right tools it is a very simple operation. One which allows someone to have the knowledge to customize their rifle in many ways. You have to start some where.

What great timing for this thread. Going to be installing a free float this weekend. For the gents that changed out their gas blocks how do you feel about your set screws on the low profile gas block as apposed to grinding down the fsb and using factory taper pins. The taper pins seem to be a more rigid install. Got the MI micro gas block but now thinking of grind/reinstall.

I've shot over 300 rounds since changing from the factory sight to the gas block. I've checked the set screws after every trip to the range (the first time out after the install I even checked them at the range, between mags). No movement in them at all. They are as tight now as when I first installed them. I did not counter sink them by drilling into the barrel either.
One word of caution...make sure you clearly line up the gas port in the barrel with the port in the GB. I wasn't so smart the first time and you can guess the outcome.

Good luck.

That is another reason I wanna grind and cut to insure a perfect alignment.

it is not that hard to line it up, you can only go so far back with the new gas block, when you get your old one off, you can measure from the muzzle to the gas hole, then measure from the front edge of your new gas block to the gas hole. subtract that measurement from the first measurement and you have it right on top. Also make sure you mark the top center of the barrel with a pencil so you can get your new gas block centered. If you decide not to use the new low pro gas block send me a pm, maybe we can make a deal. LOL if your going to remove it to grind it then you can install the new one pretty easy.
