How many rounds will your M&P 15-22 fire before it has a FTL because its dirty. I don't know that that is the problem and don't get me wrong, I clean the gun very well but. . .I have just sent mine back for the third time. They replaced the mags, replaced some springs and all six mags had many FTL rounds. I wounder what in the world is up with this gun! I use the recomended CCI ammo and still problems! I like the gun but if it won't work, what good is it?

Sounds like you just got a bad one. If S&W can't fix it they should just replace it. I bought an early M&P15-22 and it has been flawless, liked it so much I just bought a 2'nd one with the flash hider. If you get one that works as it should you'll be very happy with it. The vast majority of M&P owners experience no problems, and usually S&W fixes the few that do. Good luck.

Mine starts giving up around 1000 rounds. Rounds don't want to fully chamber and the bolt doesn't always catch open on last round. Those are the typical tell-tale signs mine is getting tired and dirty. Mag snags will happen at any time, clean or dirty.

just curious how often do your FTLs happen?

I had couple of FTF happened earlier, during the first hundred rounds, all of them from Rem rounds.

None has happened recently, on all 5 mags (I have over 2k rounds on my 15-22).

I usually clean the rifle every 2 or 3 hundreds rounds, btw.

I'm up to 500 rds (CCI) without cleaning. Only one failure so far, (FTF) and that was because of a mag loading issue on my part. I'll be firing again today with 200 more rds and will let you know. I want to see how long I can go without cleaning it before it causes a problem. After the test, I'll go back to cleaning it after each use.

2000+ rounds of CCI without cleaning yet. 2 failure to fire. Will run bore snake through next time, probably tomorrow.

I know this is an old thread, but my rifle worked "flawlessy" for 2k rounds or so. Just wonderful, with any ammo.

Now, no matter how much I clean it, still can get a low-power recoil, that does not cock the hammer. Sometimes not strip a new round. Every 5 rounds or so. Happens more when the magazine is close to empty. Very baffling ... Might have to send it back, but I think they are on vacation (Camp Perry?) for a couple of weeks.

The things that comes to mind is overlubrication of the BCG rails with a heavy grease, a bend in one or both of the rails, no lubrication of the hammer pin, no lube on the face of the hammer/rear of the bolt or a mag problem.

Do you have more than one mag? If so, does it happen with every one?

possibly magazine spring related? just a thought since there might be less tension with fewer rounds.

After thinking it over, I am not sure how this could be caused by a mag spring problem. Now if somehow the bolt is dragging on the top of the mag. I'm betting the bolt is dragging on either the rails or something on the inside of the upper.

I had ten FTFs with Winchester Wild Cats (40 grn) in my new 15 22 MOE............With the same ammo I put 500 rounds thru my (ammo picky) Walther Colt C 4 with out one single misfire.........I am hoping that cleaning and lube will fix this.....

If I have to send it back to S&W they will have to refund my purchase price!!!!!...I got fancy nasty lawyers in the family...:D

I hope that the 15 22 will come around to using a variety of ammo......I would hate to have to order Chef Ramigucchie's special garlic soaked ammo from France............The only ammo I have had problems with over the years in my auto loaders is Remington ****.

Custom made for shooting vampires?

Haa........I mistakenly mistook it to mean that our silly 22 cal look a likes are the stuff of the "air soft mall ninjas".........

Nah. I consider the 15-22 to be as serious a firearm as any other. I have a bunch of .22s and this is my favorite.

Not yet, but that and a light cleaning of the chamber and bore is on the ajenda for next week when I go to the range..................Poor old me just wants all my 22 cal clones to eat the same ammo.........

I want to buy a case of ammo that is good all around..................Right now I have a bunch of Winchester WildCats that everything else but the 15 22 seems happy with......I just hope that the cleaning works.

I am reminded of the old gag, "Doc, it hurts when I do this." Doc replies, "then stop doing that." :)

I am going to Walmart this after noon to look for the Winchester hollow point (copper wash) bulk ammo.......Is that a good idea?

As long as it is their M-22 ammo.

Why are you hung up on Winchester?

Try another brand! Just quit messing with the Wild Cats; they obviously don't work well with your 15-22.

"Why are you hung up on Winchester?"

AVAILABILITY OF REASONABLY PRICED AMMO IN BULK.....Be it Winchester or what ever!!................Actually, I am afraid to buy any more WildCats or even use up what I have left even in other firearms that have no problems with it.....You might be watching me from behind the bushes...............................................Majorlk, I promise not to use anymore WildCats in my 15 22...;-) ;-) :-)

PS: I have about a thousand rounds of (gasp oh horrors) WildCats left....

With the plethora of online ammo suppliers, this is a non-problem.

Is that all? I don't think I have ammo in any caliber in that small a quantity. <ggg>
