M&P 15-22 Cleaning

well you've stated that your wildcats work great in your other .22s so no big loss. find something cheap that your 15-22 runs and maybe even try them in your other .22s. either way, your 15-22 is hands down the most fun of all of them so make it a priority. ;)

Actually my HK MP5 SD is an all around riot to shoot and I think it would shoot already shot ammo........However, I am going to try the suggested ammo for the wussy 15 22 knowing my other three will gobble it up.

PS: It is funny about my 15 22 MOE not liking WildCats, but the 15 22 Standard I bought my son and grand kids eats anything.....U reccon the Magpul stuff on my rifle is really the cause....

definitely. magpul furniture is just way too classy to shoot lowly wildcats. :D

I clean my 15-22 after each trip to the range. I typically fire 200-300 rounds through it.

I've had a couple of failures. These magazines seem a little finicky about how I load them, so I take care when inserting rounds.

I shoot a variety of ammo - CCI Minimags, CCI AR 22, but mostly Federal bulk...round nose and hollow point.

I clean mine after every outing. It starts getting sketchy after around 600-700 rounds of Federal bulk.

A gun can never be too clean. I clean all my guns after every shooting. Does not matter if it was just 1 shot to get the rabbit out of my garden or 500 rounds when at the range. Keep them clean and they work every time.

I keep a loaded S&W 3 1/2 inch barrel 5 shot 38 cal with lead hollow point bullets in one of the kitchen cabinets and a Colt 1991 A1 loaded with PMC half jacketed hollow points by my bed and I carry an Astra A 70 9mm loaded with PMC jacketed hollow points...............Although a 22 cal is deadly, I use them for fun shooting.........The above weapons are for self defence......(or if my life depends on it)

I promice to clean my 22s more often:D

The things that comes to mind is overlubrication of the BCG rails with a heavy grease, a bend in one or both of the rails, no lubrication of the hammer pin, no lube on the face of the hammer/rear of the bolt or a mag problem.

Do you have more than one mag? If so, does it happen with every one?

I've only shot my rifle 3 times, each time it always starts to jam at around 500 rounds. I've used a light coat of oil on the BCG rails the first time, and a light coat of tw25 grease the other times.

Where and how do I lube the hammer pin and face of the hammer/rear of the bolt?

*btw using CCI mini mags and federal american eagle

Just a comment; if you can see the lube, you probably have used too much.

Lubing the hammer pin (and trigger pin) involves putting a single drop of oil (preferably CLP) where the pin passes through the trigger or hammer. For the rails, you want a light grease, like Tetra, not oil.

As for the hammer face and rear of the bolt, a little dab of Tetra lube, or something applied to the surface with the finger tip and then rubbed until the surplus disappears is all that's needed on those items. Exactly where should be obvious when you look at the two items.

You didn't answer the question about the number of magazines.

thanks for the input
I put enough oil or grease so you can barely see it. I'm going to start using even less.

I'm not sure what you mean about the question about the number of magazines. The first 2 range trips I used a 10 rnd and 25 rnd mag. On this last trip I used those, plus 2 more brand new 25 round mags. All OEM S&W.

I've already cleaned and lubed the gun since this last shoot, but I think i'll do it again with the technique you suggest. I'm also going to pay more attention to my loading. I think towards the end of the shooting session, I may get sloppy and try to load as much as I can, as fast as I can before the range closes.

The magazine question was do you have the problem with every magazine or just one in particular?

That's why there's no such thing as too many magazines! :)

If you follow the directions in the manual, feed problems are pretty much non-existant. As far as speed goes, it takes me (using the manual's method) under a minute to load a 25-round magazine. The key for me is to rest the bottom of the mag on a hard surface and pull down the button with both the thumb and forefinger (one on each side of the magazine). Trying to simply hold the mag in the hand and pull down the button with the same hand is an exercise in slow frustration. :)

It happened with all 4 mags. I load the way you explained, I was just in a rush to finish the brick of ammo before the range closed. Next time I need the gf to keep loading my mags as I shoot lol

If it happens with all four, that generally eliminates a magazine problem.

If God didn't mean for girl friends and wives (and children) to load magazines, He wouldn't have given them nimble fingers! :D

If your gun is jamming while on the clean side, maybe you should run a 550 box thru it and see if it runs better dirty. I clean my 15/22 about twice a year wether it needs it or not and I run a lot of Fed bulk ammo at steel plates and it's run just fine.
