M&P 15-22 Failure to Eject

I've had the 15-22 for a couple months now and during the last two to three trips to the range I've experienced numerous failures to eject the spent shell.

The bolt chambers a round but also catches the spent shell on the way out and crushes it between the bolt and receiver.

This happened more often with a certain kind of ammo, so I went to ammo I know has worked well before. Same issue but less frequent.

I thought it might be that the gun needs a cleaning; however, after a good clean and lube, it happened once during my last trip to the range with the same reliable ammo.

The guns not that old and I've cleaned it at least three times already.

Any ideas?

This is maybe the only consistent problem you will hear about with this rifle. Some just come with defectives parts in the bolt. I had the same problem with my first one & the extractor , spring & pin wound up coming out while I was shooting. Unfortunately it will take a trip back to S&W , if it is that same problem.

My year old 15=22 has done this for a year. Doesn't matter what ammo I use although it does run well with CCI Mini=Mags. But I don't want to have to run that expensive stuff all the time. As if you can find any! I just sent it back to S&W Friday. Hope it comes back OK. It is an awesome gun when it runs right.

I just picked up a 15-22 a few weeks ago .....same problem.
Even the CCI mini- mags give me grief......called S&W and back it goes .....I'm confident they will resolve the issue.
Aside from the FTE Issue, this is one the most fun Rifles I have owned.

I had a similar problem with mine right from the factory.

Upon close inspection, I could see the ejector was bent down.

I carefully bent it up until it just cleared the cutout in the bolt.

No FTE since.

HAD ISSUES WITH MINE

But not exactly the same. I thought the gun was spotless until I completely disassembled the bolt & gave that a good cleaning. Start with the cheap/easy to fix things first. It sounds like it's extracting OK but the ejector may need a tweak/cleaning. Excess oil & 22 crud make for a bad combo that can get into many places & still look clean, before disassembly. Clean, oil, then wipe the excess oil off, plenty will remain to keep it running smooth & collect less dirt/crud.

Got mine back from S&W yesterday. Took it right to the range. Put 200 rounds of 4 types of 22 through it. Not one failure to eject. Too bad it wasn't this way from the factory. Repair slip said "adjusted ejector, test fired". I'm happy!

That's Funny.....Got mine back yesterday as well..
Gee ,guess what little slip of paper said?
Yep-- same thing.
Plan on going to the range tomorrow and see how it does.Based on the posts I've read, I should have no more issues with the FTE.
I too wish it had been right from the factory. To S&W's credit ..the turn around time was less than ten business days. They received it on the 5th and back in my hands on the 16th......not bad.

I'll let ya know how does at the range.

The ejector can easily be bent when using a cleaning rod at 1 time there was a you tube video showing how to tweak it back in shape with needle nose pliers, I only use a Patch Worm cleaning kit on My 15-22 to avoid bending the extractor.

Just got back from the range...........YEEEEHAAA!
CCI Mini Mags
Augila HV
CCI standard Vel
American Eagle Red box
Fiocchi HV
Norma Tac-22
All without a hitch....
Using the CCI std Vel and the Norma = all Inside a one inch dot at 25Yrds--open sights......This thing is stupidly accurate .
Out of all the .22's I've had ,this one is by far the most fun..Oh wait--I said "I had" . I bought this one for my wife.....
Oh Honey ! May I borrow your .22 again?.............PLease!

Was having the same problems with FTE's on my 15-22 with at least 3-4 per mag.......that is until I found this thread and the YouTube vid that shows how to tweek the ejector -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wO76HC9tD4g

Followed the instructions on the video, went to the range and ran 200 rds without a hiccup! :D Good as new. Thanks for the info, guys!
