Anyone else have trouble getting it off? I've done everything. Penetrating oil, heat, clamped in vise hard. Will not budge.

I literally tried every suggestion mentioned in those threads (before I even read the threads) and nothing. I must have been impacted on w/ red Loctite.

I'm going to let a smith tackle it.

I literally, yesterday, held the rifle in my hand, put a proper AR armorers wrench on it and twisted it off with zero effort. I was prepared for a bigger fight, twisted right off.

Mine came right off with a vise and 3/4 inch wrench. Not much pressure.

But I have had a AR that the flash hider keep shooting loose on. I tried a drop of blue and problem fixed.

I'm with you, send it back. Could be cross threaded from the factory.

That is a possibility.

I've not had mine off so I just checked it. I think I could've taken it off with just my hand. Mine was barely tight.

Same here, mine came off super easy! I held the barrel with one hand and loosened the flash suppressor with the other. Then, I checked my barrel and it was finger tight too. I guess 10,000 plus rounds through a 15-22 loosens things a bit.

Sorry posted on wrong topic.

Update: It's off and now the can on. Somebody at the factory thought they were doing a "great job" by putting it as tight as it was. Had to get it very hot and hit it w/ a large hammer on the wrench to break loose. No reason it should have been that tight. Yet some are loose. They should have a ft/lbs standard for torque.

Attached pics. It's fun w/ the can. Yes it cycles full auto with than can and subsonic. Just not w/ the optics on. I have to take them off and put the iron sights on. Optics are borrowed from my LWRC.

Probably the 2nd most fun gun I have!

I should have read this thread here before playing with mine.....

I have a gaggle of ARs and bought the 15-22 with a threaded barrel to use a can on it. I have never had a problem getting any standard flash hider off of a legal length barrel, until now. When it didn’t come right off I used a standard AR upper vise. My attempt canted the barrel in the upper about 5 degrees and tweaked the metal tabs on the bolt carrier. I know I can fix this but it is going back to S&W for warranty repair.

I spoke to customer service on the phone and was told the FH was not meant to come off. I asked the obvious question, “why advertise threaded barrel with 1/2 /28 threads” if it’s not meant to come off. The response was “that’s what I ask the engineers.” It some type of glue.

Now my rifle will be in the shop for some time getting the FH removed and whatever else replaced.

I will be out of a rifle for a while.

does S&W do warranty work even when the damage is obviously caused by the owner's carelessness?

i would think there would be some sort of exception where the warranty won't cover a repair in a situation like this.

just wondering. thanks.
