I have never heard a BWM being called a "bimmer" before.
I also wouldn't go to a BWM car forum and argue with the established norms.
Something "clip" people seem to love to do. A Clip is a bent piece of metal that statically holds the ammunition. A Magazine is a dynamic system that feeds bullets into a firearm. Calling one the other is even more incorrect than Bimmer/Beamers. It is honestly like calling a semi automatic pistol a revolver. Or the case of your PC the CPU.
"close enough" isn't good enough when you are talking about specific components to a complex system.
There will be regional differences. It is a South African thing to call the "projectile" part of a bullet a "head" or a "bullet head", but internationally a clip is a clip and a magazine is a magazine. Invariably clips get loaded into magazines. Either wholesale like an M1 Garand's end block clip or as a magazine feeding device for an internal magazine like the K-98 or the C-96 pistol. They can also be used to recharge removeable magazines like in the SKS and SMLE.
A clip is not a magazine in the same way diesel and gasoline are not the same thing, even though both are "fuel".
Getting your problem solved IS important, but describing it correctly is also important. If you use the incorrect term you will not receive the help you want. Go ask for help with your .303 Lee Enfiend SMLE when the clip doesn't work, when you actually mean the magazine.
