M&P 15-22 VS SR22 at the range today

Well… It was my first time out with the 15-22 today finally got her all dressed up & cleaned ready to go(kinda nervous about how she was going to preform new gun and all )

My sister brought along her 10-22 bench rest shooter I built for her birthday and her boyfriend brought his SR22 from
Ruger.

So of course the bench rest out shot either of our red dot scopes, she was shooting quarter size hole at the 50 yard berm,

However the M&P ran perfectly from the get go

300 rounds of the 22 tactical ammo and 200 rounds of Mini Mags once sighted in I was shooting a 2” group @ 50 yards. I’m so happy with its performance I could have s….well you know

The big surprise to me was the SR22 needed a breaking in period of about 200 rounds before it started running smooth(thought my gun was going to do the same thing but never did) of course he was shooting all kinds of ammo to see what was the best for his gun, it even was shooting rem gold ok???

He did had a lot of stovepipes and failure to feed with all the ammo he tried and at the worst of it he actually said he should of bought a M&P 15-22
until he went over the 200 round count.

We had a lot of fun and had a few people stop by to check out the guns we were shooting (I think I even met a forum member, I didn’t know it at the time he just asked me if I liked the M&P 15-22)

Get the M&P 15-22 (never handle a SR22)

i had an sr22 and loved it,,, super accurate but heavy,,, weighed more than my real M4.

i am much happier with my PC 15-22 on all fronts,,, to me the only thing one could gain with the sr22 is far better availability on barrels

i had had the choice of a standard 15-22 or sr22 to be given to me free i would take another 15-22 over it any day,,, i would honestly rather have two 15-22s than have one of each

just my .02


btw to clean the sr22 u will no matter what have to remove your optic and u will need several tools to take it down,,, and yes its a real pita to clean.

ruger 10/22s are very nice in there own right but simply putting a shell over them and giving them another name just doesn't stand to reason if u ask me,,,

just added lots of weight and make it very hard to maintenance

Hi I agree with the breakdown of the SR22, he showed me what he had to do in order to clean the weapon….yep peta all right, showed him how mine broke down and he was like !!

I was going to install a bolt buffer and auto bolt release catch for him at the range, was accustom to the breakdown of a Ruger 10-22 (have built a couple of Ruger bench rest shooters)

So after he explained how to break it down…. thought it would be better to work on it on a bench, really didn’t realize how easy the M&P 15-22 would be to work on compared to the Ruger SR22.

I did have the choice to buy either, in fact it was the SR22 that caught my eye in the first place as an E.B.R.

Then I happened to see the 15-22 the day I went to buy the SR22, The gun shop also had a Colt 22 and I was able to compare them all side by side the M&P15-22 won out on several points

• Interchangeability with AR parts
• Functionality of an AR type weapon
• Weight
• Looks
• Cost

I’m not saying the other brands are bad choices but if you truly want a close proximity to an AR platform and the features it has, then the M&P 15-22 is the “Man” especially after shooting it!

And there’s something about the look of the M&P 15-22 with my 1911 .22 from Umarex that just looks right (currently in the market for a .45 Colt 1911 Gold Cup for the big caliber set)

They will look almost identical to each other when I’m done, the only thing is I should have purchased a M&P 15 in 5.56 NATO (my friend has a M&P 15 and is a dead match for the M&P 15-22) instead of the Rock River Arms LAR-15 in the same caliber,

That was basically cost and features between the two, I got a better trigger, barrel, stock, free floating forgrip & saved about $400.00

Can you guess where that savings went?

Yup, that was me. My 10 year old and I love his M&P15-22 (it used to be mine ) I really liked the looks of your "Zombie Hunter." Now that i know who you are, I'll be sure to sit and chat next time.
