How does this differ from the OR other than no muzzle brake/flash suppressor and 10 round mag supplied rather than 30 round mag? Is that what makes it "compliant" in certain states?

Yep, Ca, Mass, NY and Jersey. Easy enough to put a flash suppressor on and bring it up to speed.

The so-called compliant rifles also have the stock pinned in place so it is not adjustable for length of pull. You know, it is not "sporting" to be able to make your rifle fit on demand or have a mechanism that allows it to fit several users.

Actually I think flash hiders are illegal in CA, you can have a muzzle break but not a flash hider. Also, I think you can have a telescoping stock if you don't have other features, like a detachable magazine (10rd or less of course), bayonet lug, or something else though I'm drawing a blank on that item at the moment. I think "good" is strongly related to cost.

Without breaking the bank, I've "think" I've decided on the Millett 1x4 DMS. Has a neat reticle, and 4x magnification and isn't very large.

I just bought the same rifle, and I'm seriously thinking about a 10X Super Sniper scope from SWFA. Check out the link below and read all the reviews. It looks pretty impressive. BSA has a new Stealth Series that also might work. As much as I'd like to, I just can't justify spending $1400 for a Leupold.

Appreciate the info on scopes. I've decided my HD scenario most likely works better with sights, and since I don't hunt that I don't need a scope right now. Any thoughts there?

Troy Industries makes the best front and rear flip up sights, most agree.

They may three rear sight versions . . . the standard round apertures, a new diamond shape that many rave about and a third that you might REALLY like. It is round also, but has a tritium (night sight) bar insert on each side of the hole at the three and nine o'clock positions. Their matching front sight ALSO has a tritium dot.

For home defense, and especially at night, you probably couldn't go wrong with the Troy night sights!

I'm posting a photo of their standard rear sight. The Troy Industries website is down for maintenance currently but this will give you the right idea.

BTW, S&W sights ARE made by Troy, then Troy puts the S&W logo on them. Save about $20 and just get 'em from Troy vs. S&W. Same thing.

I appreciate that info. Those sights look real nice. For now I'm just staying with a basic UTG front sight and a carry handle rear sight, but I'm going to keep those Troy sights in mind for an upgrade.

Hi,

Troy's site is back up now, so I can link the photos of the tritium night sights they make. I've got night sights on a Kimber .45ACP and as long as you can make out the outline of your target to line up the sights, your gun will group as tight on the target as during the day!

I suspect these would be great as back up, or main iron sights on an AR-15:

Well I'm taking your advice and going with the Troy as the other stuff hasn't worked out.

My M&P 15 came with the Troy flip-up rear sights. I purchased the Meprolight night sights (front and rear). I was able to swap out the front by simply unscrewing the old and fitting the new.

However, the instructions for replacing the rears are not very clear. I cannot figure out how to take them apart. It says to remove the retaining pin from the wind adjustment.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how to do this, and I can't find any exploded views of these things. Does anyone know where to start?
