This model is archived on S&As web site. Anyone know why they are not making these? I heard the piston guns were the grail of AR15 style weapons.
Thanks
Bill

Because no hot dirty combustion gasses are cycling the action, the action stays cleaner and cooler. The drawback is that there is no uniform standard for an AR-15 gas piston system. Each company does it differently. No standardized parts.

Honestly, I don't know why S&W ceased production of the piston guns. Most likely they didn't sell well.

I have owned my M&P 15PS now for about 4 years, and it has been one of the best, most reliable rifle I have ever owned. It has never had a failure of any kind and is so easy to clean. It also shoots better groups @ 200 yds compared to my friends Rock River AR15...which makes me feel pretty good.

Considering so many manufacturers have added a piston model to their inventory it is a little surprising S&W quit building them. When I bought mine I was on a waiting list at my LGS because they were selling them as fast as they came in. I would buy another one without hesitation.
