M&P 15 sport gas block

I am having a hard time removing A2 front sight/gas block from my rifle. I even ordered a special punch and block from brownells but still cant seem to get the taper pins out. Any tips?

Smith and Wesson has their pins in backwards from other manufactures. Caliper the the heads of the taper pins and beat on the side that is the smaller diameter.

That is what I thought. I was hitting them that way for a while but when i got the block i just figured i was hitting it the wrong way. Thank you so much. If this does not work i'm drilling the pins out
