M&P 2.0 9mm Problems

I purchased a FDE 2.0 9mm on Friday, cleaned and lubed it. Carried to the range this morning and was not able to get it to cycle without issues. Each mag ran OK, then not. I experienced most every malfunction I could think of. Failure to feed; stove pipe of an empty casing; stove pipe of a live round; failure to go into battery. I currently have a live round in the chamber with the slide about 1/4" to the rear and it is completely locked up. I was shooting my 124 grain reloads and have used them in my Shields and my BHP with no issues. My gunsmith will look at it tomorrow and hopefully get it unlocked so we can extract the live round. He is a certified M&P armorer so maybe he can diagnose the problem.

The pistol is very accurate when it runs. I'll try factory ball in 115 and 124 grains once I get it working again. If it is still not 100% reliable (or as near as something mechanical can be) it will be headed back to the mother ship. This is the first Smith I have ever had an issue with and I have owned quite a few.

Sorry to hear about the issues. Hopefully you get them resolved I'm sitting at right around 500 rounds through mine with zero problems.
 
You are likely experiencing the bullet lodging into the grooves/lands especially since you have the slide locked up on extraction. My 45 Shield is sensitive to bullet position and bullet profile.
I am a reloader, however any new gun I purchase I buy a box of quality brand name factory ammo, if the new gun has issues with the factory ammo it is most likely the gun. If no issues I move on to my reloads but doing a plunk test prior to trying to use the reloads will tell you where you are at and where you need to be for bullet seating depth.

Extract that round and try out a box of quality factory ammo and see how that goes:)
The gun you mention is the next one on my radar in 5in for me!

When you do the drop/clunk test, dropping them in the barrel as a case gauge, rotate the cartridge. Maybe take a couple of your reloads with you. If they don't turn easily, you're hitting the rifling. You can have the barrel free bored or load a bit shorter. I'm up to about 1k through my 2.0 with zero issues. Come to think of it, I don't think I've had a malfunction in an m&p yet. Maybe 6-7k through 2 first versions, a shield and the 2.0 4.25".

What he says. Just because they work in one gun does not necessarily mean the reloads will work in another. Getting a load that is both accurate and functional in multiple guns can be a challenge.
 
My 124 gr. reloads work in every 9mm I have, which is quite a few. Every one except my Shield, that is. Must have a tight chamber. Factory ammo will run in the Shield, so obviously my reloads are a hair out of spec.

I guess it's because I have run this same reload in at least 6 9's for at least 4 years with no, I repeat, no issues. Silly me.:rolleyes:
 
Like you mentioned in the original post and others have mentioned, I would run a box or two of factory ammunition through it and just see what happens. If it runs fine you may have to make a minor tweak to your loads and see what happens.
 
My 2.0 FDE 5 inch runs without a hiccup, but I had a similar problem with my 9 MM RO. In order to identify the problem I coated the rounds with a black Sharpie, chambered the rounds and looked for wear signs. I noticed two high spots. To correct the problem I had a gunsmith use a finish reamer, and use a Lee Undersized die. The RO works fine now.

Tight chamber. Had a 9mm (of a different manufacturer) that would not pass plunk test with my reloads. The reloads passed a Dillon Precision 9mm case gauge test, but would not fully chamber. Called mfg, was told that when they ream chamber, they use a factory ammo 9mm round to check, then stop reaming. HOWEVER, factory ammo is 0.3910" at 0.200" b (and allowed to be 0.007" undersized). SAAMI calls for the chamber to be 0.3913" (+.004 at 0.200" b). Purchased a .002" undersized Lee sizing die - still not chambering. Purchased a 9mm finish reamer, gave it to my gunsmith, had him ream chamber. Took out a lot of metal. He has serviced several 9mms (from that manufacturer) since. Did a cast of the Dillon Case Gauge, would NOT plunk into that barrel before reaming, but would in other 9mms.

I have just over 1000 rounds through my 5inch FDE. 1 Failure To Eject and one Failure To Feed both with Winchester White Box 115 grain FMJ. No issues with my self defense ammo: Winchester or Remington 115 grain JHP. FTE and FFE were both last Saturday after 5 hours of drawing and firing (298 rounds) in active training. I was tired and probably not gripping the pistol well.
 
I carried my 2.0 to the range after my initial issues with 124 reloads. Put 200 rounds of 124 American Eagle and 50 rounds of Federal HST 124's. Had two failures to chamber but both were resolved by a rap on the back of he slide with my hand. Neither mag would lock the slide back and I experienced at least 8 empty case stovepipes. Also had two failures to pick up the next round about midway through the mag. My gunsmith and I both shot it with similar results. Will be calling Smith on Monday unless someone knows the magic answer.

Check the extractor. M&P 2.0 has a tight extractor. Make sure it has free movement. Some cut off a coil on the spring to lessen the pressure.
 
It's your reloads. No offense but just because they function in 1 gun doesn't mean your good to go. They are no doubt underpowered or inconsistent . Either way if you didn't load them I wouldn't shoot them.
 
I know this is over a year old, but in the event someone else comes across it, I was having the exact same issue. I noticed someone else mentioned checking the extractor. I replaced my extractor with one from Apex Tactical. Problem disappeared immediately. I've cycled 500+ rounds through the pistol now without any issues.
