Stopped by the range today on my way back into town with my new M&P 2.0 Compact 9mm. Ran 365 total rounds through the gun – 300 Blazer Brass, both 115 and 124 grain FMJ, and 65 total Federal HST (35) and Speer Gold Dot (30), both 124 grain JHP. The gun ran perfectly with no malfunctions of any kind.
The first range picture is the initial 15 shots at the 7 yard line from a holster draw. Took me 1.25 seconds to fire the first shot, with my splits between .21 and .25 for a total of 4.75 seconds, or close to it. I didn’t record the time before resetting, but it was 4.7something.
The second picture was holster draw then double taps from the 10 yard line into the body as fast I’m capable of going and also included magazine changes. The head shots were considerably slower, roughly two shots per second, and were not double taps. Neither of these drills were timed. I shot other drills too, but did not take pictures of all the results, but the results all similar.
I have to say this gun is impressive. The trigger is definitely better than the one in my 1.0 9c and comes in at 5.10 to 6.4 lbs. using a Lyman trigger gauge (low to high, 10 pulls) for an average of right at 6 lbs.. The ergonomics are very, very good for me. Feels like it was custom fit for my hand with the medium backstrap, which is the one I settled on. The gun is also well balanced and I found the stippling to be a plus. The gun does not move in your hand when rapid firing, and after 365 rounds, no areas of my hands were rubbed raw or aggravated in the least little bit. I could have easily shot another 200 hundred rounds. I found the accuracy to be more than acceptable. I didn’t shoot any from a bench rest, but will during the next outing, as this outing was just getting used to the gun from the 7 and 10 yard line. Oh, and lest I forget, the night sights are indeed a bonus as was the third magazine that came with this gun.
I have smaller guns that I have carried, do carry and will continue to carry to some degree, but I find I have gravitated more towards what is now called a “Compact” sized gun, that being a gun with a 4” barrel and a magazine capacity of around 15 rounds. This product from Smith & Wesson fills that carry bill nicely, and I have no doubt it will continue to perform and prove itself over the next few weeks. In my opinion Smith & Wesson has hit a homerun with this gun, and for the life of me I don’t understand why every gun manufacturer doesn’t follow suit and produce a G19 sized/15 round capacity handgun. Any of you gun manufacturers listening???
