I've read countless reviews and watched dozens of YouTube videos, and not even one reviewer or owner has complained or mentioned the plugs or the slide and the backplate sticking out ever so slightly... It;s designed that way ans isn't a big deal.

I don't see anything wrong with the gap of your slide or the plugs...but what's causing the end cap (back plate)on yours and his, to stick out like that, it would bother me. Have you thought about replacing it with an aftermarket billet aluminum end cap? What causes that on some but not others? And although the Compact and Shield are different models...they are not completely different guns, they are very similar in design.

I have no "Sympathy" for the OP, his gun looks really rough & Cheap from his Pictures and i would not want it new for 1/2 price!

Every time read this type of complaint, always the buyer is too "Stupid/Lazy" to check gun for issues since they are in a hurry and complain later!

I order mine online and never had 1 issue but i check all out good and if there is an Issue i dont accept it!

OP  why did u buy it since surely u checked gun out 1st!

Mind taking a close up picture of your 2.0 compact from the same angle? The backplate sticks out Every so slightly in every last pic I've been able to find on Google images.

I never said I had a Compact...I have a Shield...and the back plate and slide are flush.

I figured you didn't. Although the designs share similarities, they are still two different designs. It's the way it's designed on the 2.0, and not a QC issue. I bet the backplate/slide is the same on literally ever person on this forum and across social media and YouTube you owns one, shot one, or has reviewed one, it normally isn't even brought up or noticed.

Maybe you should've got a Shield?
I have 3 Shields... I just don't want people that come across this thread who purchase a 2.0 online to waste their time by rejecting the transfer because they're under the false impression that it's a QC problem. It's how S&W designed it...

I read this thread and pulled out my 2.0 C 4.25" gun, same as the op's. My gun is pretty much as described by the op and not once did I ever think there was a defect. The "defects" he described would be unacceptable in my 1911 world but this is just nitpicking to the nth degree.

Let me see if I have this straight...

You bought an inexpensive gun and expect everything to be perfect? I think your expectations are unrealistic. When you buy a hamburger at the local fast food place do you complain that the burger isn't perfectly centered on the bun?

S&W has come up with a brilliant design that functions better than most. These guns run and run. They're reasonably accurate and function reliably. The best part is that all this reliability comes at a very reasonable price.

If you want perfection, buy an Ed Brown. If you want a durable, reliable gun, buy the M&P. Go shoot it and enjoy.

My only fit and finish complaint is that the black oxide coating over the nitride stainless isn't worth a damn. The kydex holster has worn some off the slide down to bare metal and scratched it all up.

I understand the O.P.'s point, but he hit the nail on the head when he mentioned that it is a mass produced firearm sold at a relatively low price. Quality is defined as meeting the customer's expectations.

For me, the S&W M&P line is well designed, reliable and reasonably accurate.

There are super high end 1911 builders that make $6000+ pistols that are works of art. The M&P works well for its price and purpose. I trust my life to mine, not something one can say about all 1911 pistols today.

This is a little nitpicky, in my opinion.

All my counter-arguments have been covered. But the same folks that complain about plastic plugs (which I’ve seen on other makes), slide gap (which I’ve seen on other makes) and the endplate sticking out a fraction of an inch would be roasting S&W on every forum if they charged $500-$600 for this pistol.

The M&P, especially the 2.0, is a well-designed, great looking firearm at a fair price. It also comes from an excellent manufacturer who stands behind their products. That’s all I ask for and need in a gun.
