There are now Compact 2.0s in the Metal line. 4 and 3.6", manual safety and not. This is an incremental improvement, but nice to see. Strangely, very little difference in weigh from poly to aluminum

This one from Guns dot Com comes to mind...

Tried posting the link, but the forum didn't like it.

Have a look at their site and do a search, they seemed to like it.

BBMW If your willing to pay the extra price for the metal compact over the polymer models then it is your choice be it with or with out the thumb safety thats ordered with both series . I noticed you did not mention the model so opinions will vari .

I will say your choice of videos is at the bottom of my want to watch list .

I own a m&p 2.0 compact 4" 9mm optic ready with thumb safety and I have range time with a metal version of the 4" compact and find no difference in accuracy or control . Supposedly the trigger in the metal is better but I do have a 5" ported PC model that has a 4lb 14 stock pull weight after 1000 rounds . My basic 4" compact was 5lb 6oz stock but I did some minor polishing and smoothing "corners to the contact points with a fine file to the trigger bar were it contacts the striker block and sear, very minor filling and polishing . Now I have a 4lb 7 to9 oz pull weight that is smoother than my 5" PC model .

I added a holosun green circle dot to my compact and had it on now for close to 2 years and have no issues . I have since upgraded the trigger to a apec fst kit adjusted to a 3lb 6 to 8oz pull weight with a short break and reset that makes it still lower in cost than a metal model .

Personally I believe the only reason m&p has a metal version is because p320 comes in metal first !

I'll say if the 200 dollars difference in cost is OK for you then go for the metal model if it makes your day better , it is your choice !

I have found out after shooting that one 4"metal the owner told me his metal is no more accurate than his few year old 2.0 4.25 full size basic model and nether are very good . I tested mine and found at 25 yards my 4" compact with the apex trigger fired from a bench and bags for a rest was not great ether but ok for carry . My m&p 40sw 4.25 or 5" group far better at 25 yards but many shooters say there 40sw group better .

Honest Outlaws video has a good review of the 4" metal model .

Has anyone seen one of these in the wild?

I have the 17 round frame "Metal" and I'm a fan, but I've complained since acquiring that they should have offered a 15 round frame and I'd be in M&P Heaven. The 17 round frame prints just a tad too much for me and as such I've been continuing on with my trusty G19. The 2.0 trigger however is superb imo and that's the reason for my want.

So I see that S&W offered just that during SHOT, but we're a month in and other than S&W.com they seem to be nonexistent on HB or the larger online retailers.

Anyone actually have or even have seen one yet?

My suspicion is that the introduction of the M&P Metal had a lot to do with the initial CSX being a bit of a dud in the market. S&W invested in the aluminum frame manufacturing process and probably locked in a purchase of X amount of aluminum at X price, and the M&P metal made that investment profitable.

After shooting full size aluminum and polymer frame M&Ps back-to-back, I personally see no benefit to the aluminum frame other than maybe impact damage resistance, and it may be trading very high round count fatigue lifespan (as has been the case for some aluminum frames in the past).

However, they seem to be selling well enough, and S&W is in business to make money by selling guns.

I sure you know if someone build most anything there will be someone to buy it! Good or bad does not matter . The one compact metal I got to shoot was nothing special accuracy wise . Buy folks buy these metal pistols and think its the cats *** of bang bangs .
