I have a 5in M&P 2.0 9mm and I was interested in putting some type of red dot on it. I spoke to my gunsmith and milling the barrel shouldn't be an issue. My only question is what red dot would fit best. I have my eyes set on a Trijicon RMR but I'm completely open to whatever will fit the best. Any suggestions or pictures would be appreciated.

It is the slide that gets milled, and the CORE version of the M&P comes with the slide already milled, tall iron sights that can co-witness, and with adapter plates for various optics.

You need to coordinate your custom work with the smith and decide how you want to go before he starts milling.

Take a look at the Shield optic. Reflex Mini Sight – SHIELDPSD

I have a Vortex Viper red dot on a CORE....and I like it a lot, but for a custom mill job the low profile Shield dot with an integrated rear backup sight looks interesting.

Thank you for pointing out my error, I assure you I will be getting the slide milled and not the barrel.
I am aware that the CORE already has the slide milled, unfortunately I don't have a CORE I only have the 2.0 hence the reason for the post. I had thought about selling my 2.0 and replacing it with the CORE but the cost difference was negligible.

Thanks for the correction!

I am interested in how your 'smith is going to deal with the Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI) on the top of the 2.0 slide. It appears to extend so far toward the rear sight that there is not enough space to mill in an optic like an RMR while leaving the LCI functional.

Thats a great point, that never even crossed my mind. That's probably why I haven't been able to find any 2.0 with optics on them. Back to the drawing board I guess.

Red dot on a m&p sheild

I recently added a red dot to my m&p sheild 9mm. I did the addition myself and am pleased with the results. I'm now looking for co witness front sights and then will move on to internals. I added a micro red dot from ade and it is a great fit.View attachment 5

Which model ADE and mount?

The mount in the photo looks like the whole rig is very tall. A front sight tall enough to co-witness might be difficult to find, especially since it appears you no longer have a rear sight.

Another option is a dovetail mount. I used the following one on my 5" 2.0 to add a Vortex Venom. Probably not sturdy enough for a carry gun, but mine is a range gun only, so it works fine:

I thought I'd read that it was still possible to mill the slide, even with the LCI. Someone makes a filler for it or something. I'd do some searching in here for older threads about it.

M&p sheild with red dot

The ade red dot model is ADE Advance Optics rd3-013 Bertrillium 30000 battery life 4 MOA from opticsfactory. The mount plate is ADE Advanced Optics Mini/Micro Reflex dot sight mounting plate from Amazon. You are correct about no rear sight the red dot has two screws that create a sight box in the rear. Im thinking with a taller front sight the two will act like a sight. Not totally sure it will but wishful thinking is where I'm going. 20190302_192348
