I picked up the new M&P 22 from the shop today. I was hoping to get out and shoot it but the weather said nope and I have to work tonight so no shooting until tomorrow.
Upon opening the box, everything looked good. SN# is less than 2k which is a little scary. It appears everything is metal except for the spring buffer. I don't have a full size M&P, only a compact so I can't tell you if it feels like the full size version. It's looks like its big brother though and feels pretty good.
The gun was really oily. Lots of oil on everything. I proceeded to field strip per the directions and it came apart as expected. The take-down lever area was caked in grease, tried to remove the grease with a single Q-Tip but there was too much for just one, it took me a while but I finally got most of it. Cleaned everything else of excess oil and inspected. Barrel appears to be a sleeve insert. It was pretty clean too, took 2 patches with M-7 Pro and a follow-up of 2 dry patches and it's ready to go.
Manual said 2 drops of oil are all that is needed. One on the barrel and the other on the rear slide rails. There are no front slide rails. Spring and guide rod go in easily although you can install the spring in backwards as well as the buffer. The spring has only one flat end that must go into the front of the slide and the buffer acts as sort of a sleeve for the spring, it easy to not catch this and put it in incorrectly. Other than that its an easy re-assembly.
The sights are single dot front with a plain rear. Rear sight is adjustable or elevation and windage, front is windage only.
I have a bulk box of CCI Blazer and Federal I will put through it tomorrow and let you all know how it shoots. No ammo recommendations or cautions in the manual either.
Stand-by for more.

Sounds the same as the one I picked up last week as far as having a ton of lubrication. Even after cleaning I had more migrate out after the initial trip to the range. I didn't notice the spring was directional so I'll double check it next time I strip it down.

As set from the factory, my rear sight left things shooting about 2" higher than my M&P9 at 7 yards using the same sight picture. I've lowered the rear sight but haven't had an opportunity to check it since then. You may want to take a flat-blade screwdriver with you to adjust the sight while at the range as I had to tweak mine at home using a laser after the fact. Lastly, other than the amount of recoil the gun feels very similar to the FS 9.

When you post here, let us know what you are paying for your new toys.

Same here, just picked up the M&P22. This is exactly the same size and feel of my 9mm and .40 just a lot lighter. Seems like a good idea for practice drawing and shooting without all the $ required for higher calibers.

I ran about 50 rounds through this one after cleaning and not a single problem. I used Remington 22LR hollow points and man does this thing shoot nicely! I subscribed to this thread, let's see what everyone else experiences. Oh BTW I have less than 2k serial number too.

UPDATE

Mine was $357 from Buds, shipped and no tax.
Put almost 500 rounds through it today. It just plain works!:D
Magazine: Loaded easily, stayed in securely and dropped out when released.
Slide stop: Worked like a charm whether you used the slide stop or racked the slide by hand, it closed and fed every time. Held open when empty every time too.
Target: 4 inch circle, 20 shots (slow) at 8 yards.
Ammo: I had a year old box of federal bulk and got a new box of CCI Blazer and put about 300 Feds and 210 CCI through the gun today. The CCI fed flawlessly, consistent recoil and ejection, no misfires or jams. Spent rounds went to the 3 or 4 o'clock and about 4 feet away.
Feds had a few hiccups and it was the ammo. I shot an extra hundred to make sure. 6 rounds total caused the slide to hang when stripping the next round out of the magazine. You could easily tell the recoil and report was weak when this happened. Spent casings ejected but the there was not enough rearward movement to allow the slide to gain momentum. The whole box was inconsistent too. Age maybe? 6 out of 300 is not bad and I am 99.9% sure it was the ammo,
Shot it fast, shot it slow, the gun stayed on target and locked back when empty just like it should.
One thing I'd like to change is the front dot. It's pretty small so it makes target acquisition a little tough on large dark targets. Maybe I will throw a little paint on it. Also, after the 500 rounds the was only minor noticeable powder residue on the front of the slide so it didn't cloud up the sight dot. For the most part it was sighted in well.
I am just a happy camper with this purchase. I am gonna clean it now and inspect and get it ready for the weekend shoot.

M&P 22

I just picked one up yesterday as well. I was looking at getting a Walther P22 but it felt too small and I hated the mag release. The M&P 22 looks and feels great. I'm very happy with it so far.

Does anyone know where to get extra 12 round mags?

44mag is great but the M&P22 magazine isn't available as yet and there was no date when I checked after buying my M&P22 a bit over a week ago.

I called S&W and they told me that extra mags won't be shipping for a few weeks. They're focusing on getting the pistols out as they seem to be in hot demand.

Understatement of the Year award winning post!

I have already been offered big money for mine.

Those guns look AWESOME! Can't wait to get my mitts on one. i love that the slide locks empty like any other M&P and unlike many 1911 conversion slides. I'm subscribed to find out everything I can! Let us know how well it handles all different types of ammo!

Subscribing to this thread... I am hopeful that the M&P22 will be a big hit and they will offer it in different variations like a compact model and a long slide target model similar to the full size Pro Series pistols. While the internals are different then their striker fired big brothers they still make fun and CHEAP practice for a centerfire M&P.

For those of you that have the M&P22 pistol already, please keep the range reports and photos coming so that we can all educate each other.

Stopped at my local dealer today to see one myself.
He got two yesterday. They sold within 10 minutes of being displayed.
guess I have to put dibs in on one just to handle it :)

Wow, I guess I lucked out. I went to the range looking to try out a Walther P22 (too small and hate the mag release) and right next to it was the M&P22, hot off the mill. I picked it up and it felt great. While there are no interchangeable backstraps, it fits my hands perfectly (I wear a medium golf glove). Slide and mag release are positioned perfectly and are quick/easy to get to. I've only shot CCI Minimags through it and they were flawless. I picked up a box of Remington 550 "Golden Bullet" hollow points to try next (Walmart was out of Federal). It's great to be able to practice shooting 500 rounds for less than $20 of ammo, using a platform similar to it's bigger bored brothers.

Could anyone comment on slide racking effort?

Would anyone be kind enough to comment on the amount of force required to draw the slide back compared to am S&W M&P full size or compact in 9mm? I have a shooter in mind who has limited hand strength for racking a slide. Is the effort needed to rack the slide much less than a 9mm M&P9c or full sized non-Pro model?

Thanks in advance.

Another 400 rounds today. Very little wear on the slide rails, a bit of wear on the bottom of the slide that cocks the hammer, nothing on the barrel exterior.
Finished up the Federal bulk and shot about 250 of the CCI Blazer over about 3 hours. 1 short stroke/no feed like I had before with the Federal and the CCI went through with no problems other than a lot of lead fowling. That CCI Blazer is dirty stuff and it smoked a lot too.
I thought my barrel was coming apart but it was just lead build up, never seen it this bad though. Will need to do a good clean tonight and see if it all comes out. If I could take a decent picture of the whole barrel I think you'd be amazed at how much there is. After a brushing and an hour of set time, that is what came out on the patches. There is still more in there.
Other than that, damn this thing is fun to shoot. Wish they made bigger mags, 12 goes by so quick.

I takes very little strength to pull this slide back. It is very light and the spring tension is just as light. A three year old could pull this one back and load a round, so don't worry about hand strength with this one, get one and shoot that thing!
